best way to live longer

is to breathe through your nose and not your mouth. breathing through your mouth is actually very dangerous.

Yoga teaches good nose breathing techniques. I was a mouth breather and started doing yoga and think it has been a benefit to my health. I now breath predominately through my nose. Good for relaxation as well.

If you haven't read "Breath" by James Nestor I highly suggest you get a copy. It's a quick and easy read... you can probably just buy and listen to the audio book .

Also a big fan of the book "oxygen advantage" and I'm currently working my way through the exercises in "The breathing cure." (I read oxygen advantage prior to Breath)

Been doing high altitude training while jumping rope post cardio. You basically force mild hypoxia as a hormetic stress so that you're a more efficient user of carbon dioxiode. It gets more interesting if you have a pulse-oximeter... When I do certain breathing exercises it vibrates and goes crazy... I'm not so sure breathing technique like tummo are actually healthy for your body.

If you're trying to live longer... you really should look into mTor and the amino acid leucine... and probably glycine. There's always trade offs in life... if you try to extend your life span it comes at a cost.

For anyone that just wants to improve their life without reading those books. There's a good app called "Paced Breathing" that's great. It's something new that I started myself... I try to keep things basic. I set it to 5.5 seconds inhale and 5.5 seconds exhale. Then, I just follow the LSD Low, slow and deep... the idea is to breath through your nose so you can't hear yourself breathing. My goal is to do it twice a day... once when I wake up and before I go to sleep. 4 min sessions. It's easy and I'd wager it's a a life overlay.

genetics by far
Grandmother 95years old, been through great depression, lived in a steel town with a smog incident for her lifetime. Two months ago Finally agreed to move in with my Aunt/Uncle after tending her own house for years. She didn't drink or smoke and was thin all her life, so she didn't totally go against logic with her case.

mother and I have the same genetic mutation - she passed at 44. I am now 43, and would be grateful to have 5-10 more productive years.

diet, including abstinence(or at least moderation) of poisons is a good one; includes overeating, alcohol/drugs, sugar/cornsyrup, polluted water, polluted air/work environment (and some of this could be a separate category for 'Environment'.

adjunct to diet - some people are genetically/environmentally predisposed to deficiencies or over-production of certain things. If it's possible to supplement a form of that nutrient/vitamin that is healthy and absorbed in the proper form, that can probably help.

Doctors medical care - same genetic/environment factors can obviously lead to serious stuff, and many people have outlived things after a procedure, or extended with medication. I had a full aortic dissection in 2002, and a lifeflight helicopter and 2 or 3 talented surgeons are the only reason I'm here.

Luck - have good luck and don't get struck by lightning or a major car accident etc...

When my father was in the hospital after lung surgery, the nurses would tell him the best way to remember how to breathe optimally, "smell the flowers and blow out the candles".
