Does anyone know how to calculate the CMP (5) numbers for the Belmont entrants

Thanks Longshot. I used to trade emails with Bill Lathrop and he would provide the info. I find it very useful. It’s much appreciated.

Once you compare it to the stallion (sire) side dosage, I'd be interested in your thoughts. I never look at the mare side w/out putting them side-by-side because one of the profiles on either side can really *unbalance* the other side of the pedigree, either water down the speed, or water down the stamina.

It's a fun group of numbers to work with though.

I hope Mr. Lathrop is still alive and well, I know he must be somewhat elderly by now,.

Interesting to see Tacitus has balanced triads.

Speaking of Bill, is he still with us? I bought his book a long time ago and found it so interesting.

We must have been posting at the same time, as you can see I was wondering the same thing myself about Bill.

As for the balanced triads:
Seattle Slew Triads = 17-10-18
Smarty Jones Triads = 16-10-19

usually the balanced triads are favored simply because they can result in an early developing athlete with the potential to either sprint or route, so it gives buyers a leeway in how to develop/condition their horse.
For a long race I would prefer something like this, plenty of speed with the stamina to go with it: 11-14-20 but that may also indicate a deep closer as well.

what do you think?

the problem is that you have to have the tools to learn it and now that nobody is updating a lot of the newer conduits for the mares (just like only some guy over in england or australia is updating the chef stallions) it might soon be close to impossible to generate the numbers *accurately*.

I've already seen some that were wrong last year.

But at any rate, you can see a "little" of things you might want to see, which is why in the Joevia topic i was just trying to say that stamina-wise, he isn't all that bad (last number in the triads). But again, all that has to be balanced against the sire side profile, as well as on-track performance.

Like any handicapping tool, it's just a little tiny peice of the puzzle.

This should dispel any notion that Joevia was distance challenged.

Distance was only a problem on the sire side.
