I lean toward the war started at SA and it should be seen through at SA, not by switching attention to another track with breakdown problems.

"Playing it safe" is probably a poor choice of words for the poll options. Churchill probably shouldn't even be wanting the BC because right now they are under the radar but once the media starts digging around in their not-so-hot breakdown stats, yikes. More than just California under attack folks.

On the flipside, perhaps I underestimate Churchill's ability to control this attention better than TSG did at SA? And that is a legitimate argument against me for sure.

One big advantage Churchill has is being in a state that loves and needs horse racing.

In contrast, Santa Anita is in a state with a strong animal rights movement and an economy that doesn't need horse racing at all.

So no controversy is going to shutter CD. SA, in contrast, was already shut down a month.

Good points, two different worlds perhaps. Del Mar has handled an activist blitz in Cali before though. I think SA could have too if it weren't for leadership's handling.

I suppose by my own logic I just admitted leadership was a special problem this time around and talked myself into perhaps agreeing CD would be fine with the spotlight.

It would be more gratifying to can Ritvo, give Frank his company back, and see SA survive and thrive. Just a rooting interest, i understand your logical argument for CD though now.

Most excellent, as if there were any doubt.

Good, now they have an extra incentive to implement safety changes not only for the BC but also to show that they are serious.

I see now he has horse Vasilika, who won Santa Anita's Gamely Stakes (G1) in her most recent start. and he can enter so he is qualified to take the horse to San Anita for the above race.
Intresting scenario.

I doubt many Euros will be trying dirt this year.
Bet a lot of 2yos don't ship out either.
We will see. Might be a good thing - the other 2yo fall stakes might get a boost.

Staying at SA. They better hope nobody breaks down in training or worse in a race.

The only euro trainer who runs his horses on dirt consistently is O'Brien

He'll run one of his horses in the classic. since his outfit are breeders. they will go on dirt.
