Now that the SA meet is over, does all the noise disappear?

Not sure if PETA will be outside LosAl or DM, but regardless assuming there are no immediate injuries at either track (and 'duck and cover' if there are any), does the noise get tampered a bit? Lots of other things to cover in the daily news cycle and best I can tell the coverage of late only seems to reappear nationally when there's another incident.

And since the proof is in the pudding (someone Goog that one for its ancestry), it will be interesting to see how the next couple of months shake out with SoCal racing. I know we all have our own ideas of what the issues are from the track over tamped during the rains to too many meds to SA mgmt pushing for races - rinse, lather repeat. There will always be incidents in racing but interested to see how these may play out through the summer. Gawd forbid anything happens at DM - Joe Harper hates any controversy on his watch.

PETA has already been demonstrating at Del Mar a couple summers. Often on bigger days, but there nonetheless.

Doubtful. CBS has already moved onto other states, like this report on Maryland (12 fatalities this year) - https://www.cbsnews.com/news/racehor...king-the-lead/

Or this recent piece in The Journal (New York) about deaths in that state, including harness tracks - https://www.lohud.com/story/news/inv...ny/1343550001/

Santa Anita got the public and media to start shining a light on the industry. Now that light is spreading to multiple jurisdictions, and isn't going to stop just because SA is dormant for a few weeks.

Nope, the only reason Santa Anita got as much traction as it did is because Santa Anita is located in the LA media market. They have been doing it in the past meets such as Del Mar, but they haven't gotten any traction.

Santa Anita really screwed over the industry as you can see CBS simply moving onto other states. It's such an easy headline to write that stirs up people's emotions.

They needed to stop the meet before the media decided horse racing was the topic they wanted to drive into next.

CBS moving onto other states, and the LA Times just taking the shotgun approach of "is this entire industry even worth saving?"

Here are the key issues that racing regulators, Californians and all Americans need to confront: Can the sport be regulated effectively enough to dramatically reduce the death toll? And do we really want to have a sport where the expected collateral damage is hundreds of dead horses? Because that’s the reality of this sport at the moment: Even when restrictions on drugs and training are put into place, horses die regularly.

Is that something we want to tolerate?

A major local radio station finally reported the 2019 death total at Santa Anita was among an 8 year low and Peta promptly said that the work they have been doing is showing a positive influence.

Imagine that.
