The probability of death from this is quite low and generally more prevalent among the very young, very old, or already unhealthy. So basically if you are healthy and get it, it's most likely going to be like a bad cold or flu, something that kills high risk groups every year already.
We should do what we can to prevent the spread, but I don't see a major debacle coming from this.
When you ride NYC public transportation you are literally surrounded by people that are coughing, sneezing, wiping their hands on the poles etc.. Many are recent 3rd world immigrants. If Ebola made it's way to the US, and especially a major city like NYC, all hell would break loose via public transportation.
So I thought allowing any flights in from infected areas was borderline insane. Sometimes extremely low probability events should be avoided at all costs because the downside is so catastrophic.
There are two things to consider when it comes to risk.
1. The probability of it happening.
2. The downside if it does.

Big difference between a kill rate of 45% vs 2%....but hey....it's a lame cheap shot...

The coronavirus outbreak is being “weaponised” by the media to bring down Donald Trump when in fact it is simply a version of the “common cold”, conservative radio host and presidential medal of freedom recipient Rush Limbaugh claimed on Monday.
His comments were widely condemned: more than 80,000 people are known to have contracted the virus worldwide and 2,700 are known to have died. Authorities are struggling to cope in China, Iran, Italy and Tenerife.
Limbaugh’s conspiracy theorist take is that the outbreak is being used by the media to discredit a president who earlier this month honoured the rightwing shock jock during the State of the Union address.
“It looks like the coronavirus is being weaponised as yet another element to bring down Donald Trump,” Limbaugh said on his Monday show. “Now, I want to tell you the truth about the coronavirus. I’m dead right on this. The coronavirus is the common cold, folks.

Rush probably has a point...but it will be lost on non-thinkers such as yourself, who are wed to one and only one angle.

NO one can predict at what rate an emerging virus can mutate...It is well know that viruses often get more virulent after going through a large number of cases.
Those are facts not fantasyland fiction the way Limbaugh vomits on radio to his dittoheads

is 'often' more than 5%? I learned most viruses become attenuated so they do not extinct their host.

Vaccine? more lies from the prez.
quote: President Trump seems to have wished a vaccine for the new coronavirus into existence. “I think that whole situation will start working out,” he told reporters at a press conference in India. “We’re very close to a vaccine.”
At a Senate hearing that same day, Trump’s acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf took a similar line, promising a vaccine would be ready within “several months.”
“You’re telling me we’re months away from having a vaccine?” asked Senator John Kennedy (R-LA). “That’s your testimony as head of the Department of Homeland Security?”
“That’s what I’ve been told by HHS and CDC, yes,” Wolf responded.
“YOU’RE TELLING ME WE’RE MONTHS AWAY FROM HAVING A VACCINE? THAT’S YOUR TESTIMONY?”
None of it was true. The CDC estimates that a vaccine for the new coronavirus is unlikely to be available in the next 12-18 months, far too late to be useful in preventing an outbreak in the US.

I clicked on your official announcement quickly, thinking it was new advertiser or a contest. Took the first sentence to catch up it was a Trump thing & when I did, I laughed my ass off.
I don’t know. I Saw that quote in the body of piece that came with the CDC OFFICIAL statement basically saying the same thing. Thats all. Nothing worth recalling what I know about hurricane cya thing.

there is some evidence that points to this being a man made virus. if that statement is true then whatever is next after Corona virus could be a lot worse.

From the Level-4 virology lab in Wuhan down the street from the Food Market. Not a chance.
