Does anyone still follow the exacta willpays at certain tracks and look for a lower payout on higher odds horses? Me and a friend did it faithfully every Saturday nite at the Big M and Balmoral from 1998 to about 2003-2004 before I broke my leg and ankle and was out of commission for a good 8 months. I hit many bombs that other people (at Freehold Raceway) were shocked I could pick. We explained briefly how we did it, but most people were too lazy to do any work.

We watched the toteboard constantly before each race and noticed, for example, certain horses had pretty low willpays on certain exacta combos where a high odds horse (but had to be a high ML also, like 10-1 or higher sometimes) payed lower than sometimes the favorite. The "smart inside" money was putting it down on these combos. We would simply play that horse to win and place and did great for a while. But the strange thing was that a horse that looked terrible in the PP's would suddenly wake up and come charging home from the back of the pack for a money spot after doing really nothing the whole race and we could even predict it. To this day, I still watch the willpays and use that method.

Some of our rules were:

1. Never get influenced by looking at the PPs since bad form will scare you off the horse. Look at them after you bet.
2. The bet horse had to have a ML of 10-1 or higher.
3. Watch only the willpays on horses below 10-1 with your horse since higher odds horses are gonna naturally have higher payoffs. The bet horse must have an exacta payout lower or very close to 3 others in the race with lower odds.
4. Be observant that your 'selected' horse may change while watching the monitor's willpays. You might like the 3 horse, then a flash or two later may notice the exacta willpays are favoring the 5 horse (but remember, it must be 10-1 ML or higher).
