But back then, we had some republicans in congress.
Not today. Just democrat-lights.

IMO, what Trumps says and tweets are sometimes erratic. How he acts is consistent.

I think the tweets are slight of hand diversions.

So, I take it by the gas attack, Assad/Russia was intentionally provoking the US and its allies to respond militarily?
I can't figure out why in the world Assad would use chem weapons AGAIN...can you?

A week prior we announced a withdrawal. Test the waters to see if our policy had changed. Just like the last strike this one didn't accomplish much in terms of a tactical victory. A lot of lives and materials weren't lost and the regime's ability to wage war wasn't reduced in any meaningful way.
Strategically it did as it showed we can easily penetrate their vaunted top of the line air defense system at will.
Like I've been saying we had a precedent for the strike. It was more a test to see if that was still our policy. They weren't going to be surprised if we bombed them.

A fact that hasn't been mentioned very often, USA still has over 900 troops in northern Syria fighting ISIS. I can see how military types percieve the attack as a 'trial run' for our troops departure. Grotesque, but look who you are dealing with.

A similar test occurred back in February when they tried to force us off the refinery. They assumed that when the heavy armor showed up we would pack up and leave. Didn't pan out that way.
