Be careful what you say in front of your kids. A few in my 4th grade class actually clapped when another teacher brought the news to the room.
Just wonder how they turned out.

They just sent us home that day.

My Father disliked Kennedy in the extreme, mainly for the President's lack of moral values, I suspect.

In any case, it was a very sad day in American History.

My mother was living on the corner of Lemmon and Turtle Creek in a high rise at the time. She was getting dressed for a lunch date when Kennedy came down Lemmon Avenue and took a right on Turtle Creek, she stepped out to the balcony to see him come by and 10 minutes later all hell broke loose at Dealey Plaza.

JFK himself requested the open limo against the advise of the secret service.
I've watched the parade route many times and there must have been a hundred locations elsewhere for a sniper to perch. I realize 55 years later this seems insane, but JFK had many enemies from a variety of sources. The fact it was a choice back then wasn't brilliant either.
This was a tragedy that could have easily been prevented. The same bullet that killed Kennedy came within inches of killing Jackie as well. What a horrific thought.

Bobby had even more enemies.

You could easily draw the conclusion that together they had made plenty of people mad enough to kill them both

JFK disliked the bubble top and rode open air whenever the weather allowed. The Secret Service had no issue with it. This is what reporter Jim Lehrer said about Dallas:

Quote:
"I asked the agent, a man I knew, who was the agent in charge of the Dallas office of the Secret Service," he said, "'You gonna leave the bubble top up?' I'll never forget it, Bob, he looked up at the sky and [said], 'It's clear.' So then he turns to the other agents who were all there by the car ... and he said, 'Lose the bubble top.'"

Lehrer believes it was a fateful decision. "I think Lee Harvey Oswald probably would not have taken the shots," he said had the bubble top been on the limousine.

The bubble top was not bullet proof, but it could have made the president a difficult target or it could have deflected the bullet.

Jim Lehrer ran into that same Secret Service agent later that evening at the Dallas police station. He recalls that the agent came up to him and said, "Jim, if i just hadn't taken off the bubble top."

Completely different reactions where I was, in Dallas. Third grade, the whole place was somber. Girls that were older were crying in the hallways. Kennedy was very popular in Dallas . There were those that disliked him but they were outnumbered by a good bit.

One of my elementary school friends at Lakewood was Hank Wade (son of The district attorney, of roe v wade), he said he liked jfk better than he did LBJ, politically. That was pretty common here.

By any measure this was a complete mess that was covered up. It is a good idea for those who are interested to look for what actual data is available.
The wound in the back of the head aprox. 6 mm perfect round hole, this was measured and noted at Parkland Hospital.
The magic bullet new is said to be 6.5 mm.
Dozens of witnesses said they smelled gunpowder at the street level including cars that follwed the Presidents car. Texas Governor John Connally said he heard the first shot and at the same time heard the President say I'm hit, and then was hit himself. The attachment is what I connect to this.

Fatal shot alleged to have come from a SS man in a car behind.
Rifle when off as he picked it up, or maybe intentional?

Tough one, so many wanted him dead.
It would be easier to prove who DIDN'T kill him.

That would be George Hickey Special Agent in charge of the cars, hired 4 months prior. Got up in SS follow car with AR15 after first shot, later assigned to guard LBJ inside Parkland hospital when the priest was sent for.

Oswald killed Patrolman J.D. Tippit, and fired on the motercade. Special Agent George Hickey would have never been assigned to guard LBJ had he fumbled the AR15
