#9 Monty-- sounds most interesting.
Raybo in his post#26 makes some good points.

I assume you have considered what demographic group will purchase the majority of this kind of work; amateur players, average handicappers, advanced handicappers, etc..
|
Obviously, I am considering the typical PA player which is a pretty advanced group. The nature of my writing is to write as I speak - which is at least somewhat verbose. That means the more experienced players will, at times, have to read things which are redundant while the intermediate players will reach a level of understanding.

If it were me, I'd start with the one that is the most basic, relating to that demographic group. Many of the titles you listed are much more advanced than the others, so, unless you're expecting the advanced crowd to purchase most of the books, I'd start with titles that are not so advanced.
|
This is, of course, very logical. However, since my target market with this first product is not the beginner, I am somehwat free to go for what is simply the topic most requested by the audience.

That way, they are presented in a logical series and would be followed by the least knowledgeable group because they gain knowledge with each step in the progression.
If you start at the other end of the spectrum you will lose much of the least knowledgeable group, "right off the bat", because you started "over their head".

My goal here is not to build the encyclopedia of horse racing, and turn it into a 2,000 page product. Rather, it is to give intermediate-to-advanced players a tool they can use.

Dave Schwartz

I think you have the poll reversed. Which ones would you NOT buy since most of us would highly consider a bunch of these books.
I voted for form cycle analysis but these are also high on the my list:
-- new modeling
-- final fraction
-- vulnerable faves
-- spot plays
-- faves to bet on
least likely to buy
-- fred davis update
-- pacelines
-- oddsline

Andy,
To say that you are "going against the grain" would be an understatement.
Thank you for your input.

Gotcha! I kinda figured you were gearing the series towards the crowd here which, IMO, contains as members some of the most knowledgeable handicappers and most technically advanced players anywhere.
I, too, am most interested in Form analysis, then comes pace line selection, then next would be odds line.

Spot plays are doing OK and the Form cycle book is getting lots of 2nd place votes that aren't showing up in the survey.
But then again being a contrarian helps in my handicapping.

You mean, something like:
"Triple your money back if you do not earn $50,000 the first week?"

Thanks. (I know it is a losing proposition, but I hope to make it up in volume.)

You could do a Mike Warren style guarantee and offer us a discounted copy of the next 20 winning spot plays if not satisfied with the first 20
