UAE Derby failures
Raaya runs 13th of 14 and Mendy May have just got lapped. 53 lengths? I know they won’t but I hope they downgrade this races derby points. It’s bad enough having them fill one spot but the possibility of two UAE toss outs in the field is ridiculous.
And just for poops and giggles, I miss LoneF about right now...

Bad logic. Mendelssohn already proved he's true quality. The Derby results didn't suddenly turn him into a pumpkin.

Exactly look at thunder snow. Lol. Bucking bronc in front of the CD grandstand.
DNF.
Flash forward 10 months.
Rips west coast a new one in the worlds richest race on dirt.
Mendy was asked to do what few horses can do, win in March in Dubai, then ship to Churchill and run in front of a very large crowd on a very poor day weather wise. I gave him the royal toss in the derby but he is a very talented. From the few glances on tv he was sweating up a storm and got forced in at the start.
He will ship to Europe and give a good account of himself there.

I agree with you Tiffani.
50 points MAX for UAE winner.
Two DNF's, two years in a row! Embarrasing.
Good for one thing though, sure throwout that takes money.
Another race that should be downgraded in my opinion is the La. Derby.
Only reason it's a 100 is CD owns it.
Second-rate race.

Just because he won an American race on turf doesn’t mean he’s quality on dirt.
We aren’t talking about the Dubai World Cup... so Thunder Snow winning that means nothing.
These horses are taking a spot from horses that will make a better showing... Mendelssohn was the first toss in the Derby and my previous posts stated that.
I don’t get the infatuation. He beat Raaya and Reride on a speed conducive track.

How good is west Coast?
Thunder Snow? Quality race horse.
Mendelson? Quality race horse.
The wood memorial gives out 100. and when is the last time that race had a winner of the KD.

I’m not saying the UAE has to win to deserve a spot... but at least making a good showing occasionally.
Any race in Dubai is a line through it for me because of the track bias.

Just another mythical Derby curse
There used to be a curse on any BC Juvenile winner trying to win KY Derby.
Before that, dosage disciples would not go near horses with certain breeding.
This year, we have put to bed the Apollo curse.
One of the few remaining curses is on UAE Derby winners.
That too will pass - eventually.
Oh, and anyone saying Mendlessohn is not a top quality horse
on any surface is very likely wrong. He lost all chance at the start.

We came close to getting that other slug from Europe for no real reason.

Mendelssohn - Brutalized in the first eighth of a mile, not once, but twice. Toss the race.
Rayya - unprepared for the start, lost any potential tactical position.
The first was just something that happens in the Derby. It's a performance to draw a line through.
The second can be fixed easily with a different jockey next time.

Why get another slug from Europe when we had 12 other perfectly good slugs from america who qualified on points and were in the derby for what, so that the owner can get good seats for the derby. Gronk would have been just another slug.

It’s not a curse... they just aren’t good enough.

as the racingpost says.
"bumped badly soon after the start and then again 150yds into the race"
an impossible trip early.

The Wood could also be reduced to a 50 pointer.
Only four races deserve 100 pts for the winner.
The obvious three based on Derby results in the last 10-15 years:
Arkansas Derby
Florida Derby
Santa Anita Derby
And I'd include the Blue Grass (now that it's Dirt and had Good Magic this year).
It should get it's G1 back soon.
