Secretariat beat 21 rivals on his way to the Triple Crown in 1973. Justify just fended off 37.
The new standards and criticism will never be met.

Man , am I with you there.
Everything is scrutinized.
Could you imagine the blow back if Chad trained Restoring Hope and he DID lay all over Justify and Gronk had caught him?
It seems this stuff will come up no matter what.
I don't care for it at all. But like you, we all want "fair".
I guess you can't have one without the other these days. Yikes !

If my lip reading is up to par, I think Javy asked Florent if the big screen made him look 10lbs heavy.

More eyes. More scrutiny. More criticism and nitpicking of everything.
Social media has greatness, it also has pure shit and trash.
Horse racing and all sports haven't advanced since about 1990 according to numerous 'experts'.
Everything was better then and always will be. Even though the athletes are bigger, stronger, and faster, they'll never be as good as your childhood memories.
We all fantasize about days gone by and how great we, or those around us, were. It is called getting old.
I think Jordan is still the greatest. My dad says Wilt. My Grandpa said the NBA sucks. New generation is LeBron. Maybe Durant.

NYRA has no one to blame but themselves, these horses should have been coupled, stables work together all th time, thats why you couple the horses, to protect the betting public.
Didnt change the outcome in the race, Noble Indy wasnt even being sent.

From DRF
John Velazquez, the rider of Vino Rosso, said he felt Geroux rode Restoring Hope in a manner to protect Justify.
Pletcher, the trainer of Noble Indy, confirmed that the plan was to have that horse in a forward position early.
“Javier opted to go to his plan B,” Pletcher said. “Mike and I didn’t discuss a plan B.”
Repole said Castellano will likely not ride for him for the near future.
“You get to run in this race one time in your life, you would expect to follow directions,” Repole said. “He chose an audible, that doesn’t sit well with me. It’ll be awhile before you see Javier in the blue and orange silks.”

Smarty Jones would be a TC winner if he had a "bodyguard" like that.

even Repole admits his two riders were to work as a team, a rabbit and a closer, so he isnt even complaining as states the other team did it better
“Justify’s a freak, super horse, undefeated, amazing what he’s done,” Repole said. “Who knows if he would have won the race anyway? We’ll never know. At the end of the day Bob had a game plan for his two jockeys, we had a game plan for our two jockeys. His two jockeys executed his plan, Johnny executed our plan and Javier didn’t execute the plan.”

You’re right, Noble Indy wasn’t being sent, that wasn’t his part today...his part was to be right on the right flank of Restoring Hope for a good part of the race...the uncoupled 3 horse entry functioned as a blocking, braking ladder early on...Restoring Hope was directed out with right handed reign going into the first turn, going wide so as not to truly press Justify but to set up the ladder while Noble Indy drifted in somewhat, later to take up position behind Restoring Hopes’ right rear flank...a perfectly orchestrated 3-part machine...
Great video BlueChip, from an overhead drone cam... https://www.nbcsports.com/video/2018...s-triple-crown
While watching the overhead video, if you can grasp the idea of a 3-part pace ladder pin early on, then the entire race is totally understandable and logical...it appears to me that the team intended the Justify victory only, and the other 2 pretenders were never intended to pursue a placing for purse money...

Repole sounds like sour grapes to me.
But I do agree with him - Javier pretty much sucks.
I will not wage a dime on that dipstick ever again.
btw, when the stewards closely examine the film for this race, maybe they could take a closer look how their local boys ride day in day out.
Maybe NY just doesn't like it when outsiders play THEIR game better than they do.
