Neil Young vs. Joe Rogan

The New York Times | By Ben Sisario | Jan 26 2022
Spotify Is Removing Neil Young Songs After He Complains of ‘Misinformation’:
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/26/a...joe-rogan.html

Quote:
Neil Young wasn’t bluffing.

Spotify confirmed on Wednesday that it has begun removing Young’s music from the streaming service, two days after the star briefly posted a public letter calling on Spotify to choose between him and Joe Rogan, the star podcast host who has been accused of spreading misinformation about the coronavirus and vaccines.

Young’s challenge to Spotify has become a high-profile, if unexpected, flashpoint in the battle over misinformation and free speech online. It also raised questions about the power of performing artists to control where their work is heard.

In a second statement that was posted to his website on Wednesday, Young called Spotify “the home of life threatening Covid misinformation.” He added: “Lies being sold for money.”

His criticism of Rogan — a comedian and actor who has become Spotify’s most popular podcast host, sometimes speaking at great length with controversial figures — came after a group of hundreds of scientists, professors and public health experts asked Spotify to take down an episode of Rogan’s show from Dec. 31. That episode, featuring Dr. Robert Malone, an infectious-disease expert, promoted “several falsehoods about Covid-19 vaccines,” according to the group’s public letter, issued on Jan. 10.

In a statement on Wednesday, Spotify said: “We want all the world’s music and audio content to be available to Spotify users. With that comes great responsibility in balancing both safety for listeners and freedom for creators. We have detailed content policies in place and we’ve removed over 20,000 podcast episodes related to Covid since the start of the pandemic.”

“We regret Neil’s decision to remove his music from Spotify,” the service added, “but hope to welcome him back soon.”
You'd think a Southern Man wouldn't be such a prima donna.

Liberals are so welcoming to opposing opinions. Even when presented by medical professionals, who were involved in the invention of the technology that brought us these wonderful, life-saving vaccines...like one Dr. Robert Malone, who, apparently, Mr. Young does not care for.

Neil Young is a science-denier, obviously.

Like his music... but he has become more and more woke.

Bailed on FarmAid 2 days out. Young being fully poked... feared the covid.

Least Willie showed. Hell the only thing Triggered about Nelson is his guitar.

Neil wrote and recorded some of the best music of the era, especially the Rust Never Sleeps album. Seems like he got more political in old age. His politics mean nothing to me. I was as big a Phil Ochs fan as there was. He was a Marxist, but he was also a brilliant writer and musician.

Take away the A~minor chord from him and he can’t play guitar either…..

Take away his capo and he’s a theater usher living with his mom.

Why do you think he got thrown out of CSNY twice. David Crosby is a nut, but one of his greatest accomplishments is beating the crap out of Neil Young

Wrote good music back in the day (like 50 years ago). Nearly everything after the 70's was garbage imo. Has a big mouth and hatred for the average everyday American, and only recently became a citizen here himself Perhaps a music legend, but an even after trashing our government since birth. Treated his band members like shit, often walking out halfway through a concert tour. I did enjoy his first 7 albums, but nothing since.
A legendary musician no doubt, but a much more legendary asshole.

Neil Young fan here; a little disappointed in the harsh response this has been getting, but I get it. I'm with GaryG here. (I listen to hardly any music anymore, but I will still spin some old faves, and Neil is one of them). It was a dick move on his part and he deserves some backlash. Why would he expect a different response from Spotify?

But I thought I saw somewhere last night that because he sold the rights to his catalog, he gave up control of that kind of thing and retracted his letter.

And Trump Jr posted a picture of Neil in the office of Trump Inc begging for money.

The doctor asked me if I had recently listened to a Niel Young album.

I remember CSNY, he was Shemp, right?

His voice always reminded me of a trapped animal in pain.

Sadly, I saw Stephen Stills perform at The Majestic in downtown Dallas, 2015. His voice was no better. Very disappointing

Neil is 76 and if not mistaken is the youngest member of CSN&Y. I went to see them in Dalles a few years back and they sounded and looked like a band formed in a nursing home. They made the Stones sound really good around the same period of time. That's pretty bad.
