The people leading these policies aren't complete and utter morons. They knew what this was going to do to children. Not to mention parents whose jobs and businesses went out the window.
To think they are all just suddenly waking up and realizing there are serious consequences to their draconian measures is laughable. They knew exactly what was likely to happen, but they didn't care.
And they still don't. Witness Karen in the airplane recently..."PUT YOUR MASK BACK ON!!!"

The psychological effects on children will be ever lasting. Lack of oxygen from wearing mask isn't helping either, not to mention being taught garbage and learning little of anything worthwhile.
