SARATOGA - how's everyone doing?

At the halfway point of SAR now (week 4/8) - how goes the handicapping?

I was ridiculously fortunate to bring home a couple huge long shots in the final couple weeks of the BEL meet, so I headed into SAR with a decent bankroll.

Held my own for the first couple weeks, but my luck's gone south of late.

C'est la vie

They call Saratoga the "Graveyard of Champions" for a reason.

I was doing well with baby races but have lost my momentum of late on grass races. Still playing the baby grass race tomorrow. I see these races as a learning lesson for me, so losing on them for a while was expected.

Honestly I have only played less than 20 cards since I am working pretty well everyday so it is pretty hard to handicap races each day of the meet

Have had a few winners on the cards that I did play but nothing earth shattering

I always blame the jockeys.

The Ortiz brothers had a combined 28 straight losing mounts between a 5/2 win in Friday's finally and today's last race winner at 4/5.

So far my best bets have come from picking the horse in the paddock and the old "short field, longest odds" trick. Otherwise my handicapping has been the oh man, so close kind for the most part. I don't have time to bet most days though.

I've played 12 cards winning 6 days. Am positive with ROI.

Had to pass a few days where I couldn't find a playable race.

As an example, I only played one race Friday 8/7 winning the 9th race. Other races where I had selections, I passed due to low odds.

Well work has been a beast. Needed to get an oil change every garage was booked solid. So I dropped it off and walked over to OTB.

Played first Saratoga races and I’m up $10. Yeah.

The highlight was hitting 8/2 exacta Race 8. That and a small lunch break with some draft Modelo’s and queso blanco.

Mixed.
Hit or miss with P4/P5... mainly misses & be a fairly neg ROI if it wasn't for the $7600 P5 I hit back on 7/24.

How did a Chad Brown horse (Shifting Sands) go off @ 30-1??

Okay I will bite. What was extremely foolish about the post? The exacta was clearly hammered paying $23.60 when it should have been in the $40 to $44 range. Something else? I realize this is probably beneath you, but if you are going to call someones post foolish, you should back it up with something.

Been watching Talking horses every morning. The insight on that show helps. I would say having a good meet. Today's tickets missed 1 race.
