Indeed! As far as I can discover the earliest dictionary was published in China in 100 C.E. The first ever dictionary of the English language was published by Robert Cawdry in 1604 C.E.

One page one of The Elements Euclid defines 23 words and phrases. If we are to accept the proposition that all definitions must come from a dictionary then what dictionary did Euclid get his definitions from? Did some ancient Greek compile a dictionary?

In academia (which you may not believe in) the common practice is for the speaker or writer to define his terms. "Define fill-in-the-blank" is a common challenge. If this challenge comes from a teacher a response of "look it up in a dictionary" will not score you any points, rather your are on your way to a low grade or even an F.

The purpose of words is to communicate, not to obfuscate. It is quite alright to refine a definition of to redefine a word if doing do clarifies what you mean. If no word fits it is quite alright to coin your own word. This is what Euclid did in The Elements.

It is quite obvious that your purpose is not to communicate but to obfuscate. And you wish to obfuscate because religion cannot stand up to critical examination.

“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less.”

Lewis Carroll Through a Looking Glass circa 1872

Which is not the one where Alice went down the rabbit hole.

Lewis Carroll's real name was Charles Lutwidge Dodgson. He was a mathematician and logician.

When you draw near to a city to fight against it, offer terms of peace to it. And if its answer to you is peace and it opens to you, then all the people who are found in it shall do forced labor for you and shall serve you. But if it makes no peace with you, but makes war against you, then you shall besiege it; and when the LORD your God gives it into your hand you shall put all its males to the sword, but the women and the little ones, the cattle, and everything else in the city, all its spoil, you shall take as booty for yourseves; and you shall enjoy the spoil of your enemies, which the LORD your God has given you. Thus you shall do to all the cities which are very far from you, which are not cities of the nations here. But in the cities of these peoples that the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance, you shall save nothing that breathes . . .

If I didn't know any better, I'd think that these instructions were handed down by Adolf Hitler...or Idi Amin.

[The Israelites] warred against Midian, as the LORD commanded Moses, and slew every male. . . . And the people of Israel took captive the women of Midian and their little ones; and they took as booty all their cattle, their flocks, and all their goods. All their cities in the places where they dwelt, and all their encampments, they burned with fire, and took all the spoil and all the booty, both of man and of beast . . . Moses said to them, "Have you let all the women live? . . . Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him. But all the young girls who have not known man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves."

"... and there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord." Numbers 31:16

Odd that this little bit of information is included in Numbers 13. Could it be that the plague was an STD and that's why they didn't kill the virgins?

And these are the same Israelites who created the scriptures that we hold in such high regard.

"When you draw near to a city to fight against it, offer terms of peace to it"

This IMHO the key.

Once again the problem of understanding lost spiritual truths, if in fact there are any, the confusion of the "map for the territory". The giant historical game of religious "telephone" played from generation to generation introduces the basic error of substituting the outer for the inner. Just like the Bhagavad Gita, war and struggle are metaphors for the inner struggle and ways to overcome all the myriad inner distractions that keep one from discovering what is important spiritually.

Very little remains of these forgotten truths refereed to in these older writings.
The key is “As above, so below, as within, so without, as the universe, so the soul” – Hermes Trismegistus

Cities, vineyards, kingdoms,. servants and slaves, are common in old mythology are external "models" often used by the originators of various religious scriptures to point to inner processes. in a sense early use fractals.

The crude literal destroys the metaphorical. So go easy on Deuteronomy

We are a leaf or a smaller branch of a tree

There you go projecting again. You are the one who obfuscates and your central purpose is to distort, twist and bend definitions to suit your purposes and agenda. In other words, you are the Master of Equivocation.

For example, "eternal" has always been commonly understood to mean timelessness, i.e. no beginning, no end. But now you want to redefine the term altogether?

https://www.dictionary.com/browse/eternal

And why are you so utterly naive that you believe that people in hoidy toidy "academia" are honest as the day is long and lily-white and pure as the driven snow? Those people are as flawed and broken as the rest of us!

Oooh..."a mathematician and logician", you say? Have you built a shrine to him?

The Midians got what they deserved for their sins against God's people. Ask Light: He calls it "karma", even though God would never call anyone into judgment, especially since evil doesn't exist.

The Israelites did not "create" the scriptures, if by that you mean they were the authors. They were the recorders of divine revelation. They recorded only what they received from God.

Rom 3:1-2
Then what advantage has the Jew? Or what is the benefit of circumcision? 2 Great in every respect. First of all, that they were entrusted with the oracles of God.

Maybe he was. Just look at how many professing Christians believe in evolution, as but one example. Such people love mammon and God. They love the world and the things of the world and God. They hold to truth and falsehood all at once and simultaneously, etc., etc. Walking, talking dichotomies....
