Racetrack Eats.....
I'm going to give a well deserved "kudos" to an obscure little racetrack that actually serves very good food. For the second time this month I took my girlfriend to dinner at....are you ready? Freehold Raceway. We took in some simulcasting on Saturday night. For the second time in as many visits, she had the excellent Chicken Parm, which I'd had on our first visit. This time I opted for the Chicken Francese, which was also excellent. As on our first visit we started off with the Asian Potstickers, served over a tasty bed of rice....available steamed or fried. They're superb either way. Our waitress brought over a warm loaf of rolls & butter to start us off.
We had gone to the price fixed buffet at the Meadowlands a few weeks ago and found it "somewhat lacking" although their Tiramisu was quite good.
In any event, if you're in the central NJ area on a Friday or Saturday night and want to try something different, I would highly recommend the Renaissance Room at Freehold Raceway. They have a group of regulars that occupies about half of the tables. We got a large table for 4 down by the bar area with two TV's and plently of electrical outlets if you have a computer. They also have Tiny Tim's available. Kitchen is open until 9. The only thing that a few folks might not like is the lighting, which unlike in years past, is now a bit on the bright side....kinda like an office. But you won't have any trouble reading your racing programs, which is perhaps the general idea : )
If we had gone live to Yonkers, "few to none" in electical outlets depending where your table is and no Tiny Tims. Another bonus about Freehold at night is the parking. We self parked for free just outside the valet entrance, near the Chili's restaurant.....super convenient. You don't have to cross Rt. 33, as you're already right outside the track building.
If you come across a praiseworthy racetrack food item or dining experience, feel free to share it here.

Is it in a shooter glass or do you use a straw?

in Gulfstream Park, Christene Lee's is excellent. i used to go to them when she was in the Thunderbird Hotel on Collins Ave,
years ago most tracks had great dining rooms. i was at Tampa Bay Downs this year and they have great snack bars with a tremendous AHI salad. the main dinning room always served great food. i remember going to The Director's Room in Aqueduct, that place was awesome as well.

I went to Christine Lee's after the '92 Breeders' Cup. Very good food. I recognized Chris McCarron sitting at hugely crowded large table that no doubt included owner David Milch, celebrating Gilded Time's win in that year's BC Juvenile.

Love those Round Knishes you can get in the Grandstand at Freeehold (not exactly fine dining but an enjoyable snack). Other than that the only thing I can think of is the food at Saratoga, the Fried Chicken Sandwich at Hattie's-absolutely delicious.

I also broke my "Kinish maiden" at the Big M during that first year they were open...and was impressed. Now that I know that Freehold has 'em at the stands, I may have to arrive early and take in their live harness card.

Willows Noodle Bar at Woodbine, in the slot machine area, is fantastic. Good assortment of Asian soups, I had the pho ($11.00). Bar is just 15 seats in total- slide in- eat-slide out. Fresh ingrediants, cooked to order, served hot.

Vessels Club
Vessels Club Ribeye and Garlic Mashed is a nice track meal. It's not Ruth Chris, but they still serve a fine piece of meat. The Apple Crisp with Vanilla Ice Cream is a sweet way to wrap up a night at the Quicks...
