Racing Action. Thank you. They were published in the NYRA program for a while until Equibase started producing computerized figs. It was an interesting process, developing the parallel time charts, etc. Once I incorporated Horse St. Pars and tweaked the parallel time charts, my numbers were really good, even my turf figs, which surprised me. When Lure (7-1) and Fraise (5-1) won their Breeders Cup turf races, in the same year, they had my top U.S. turf figures and I bet them both to win. Lure was a fast horse.
Doing the figures was time consuming. I did them for 10 years, and I'm glad I did because it taught me a lot about handicapping and how wind and other elements effect time. That's why I can quickly spot a quirky track, like this year's Derby day. As soon as I saw fast early fractions for sprints and slow times for routes I immediately thought it was most likely windy, and I checked, and sure enough, it was windy. On days like that, you must have two variants, one for one turn races and another for two turn races.
