Bob Baffert, only one to skirt the rules, cmon man.
Its just hard to be a horse racing fan without being highly cynical of the chemicals that are being used to enhance performance.

Bob will clear this story up in the morning with his press release and we all can get back to what is now the norm.

there is no way this becomes some sort of story the industry pursues with any vigor.
Its so long after the fact it feels hard for to gain more traction than a one day national story.

A certain amount of this is actually unavoidable, because you actually need some level of expertise. If you just took 7 random California civilians who knew nothing about horse racing, they wouldn't know the first thing about regulating the sport.
|
Those aren't the only two options. You can pick 7 people off the street and TRAIN THEM to be experts in a field they have no economic interest in. You can find equine experts or horse racing enthusiasts who could be trained in shorter order, and left alone. The capture is intentional.

For me, like I said, the only ones surprised would be those who think racing is utterly clean.
The PROBLEM for me is that the public is not informed of these things, WHEN THEY HAPPEN. Because "closed sessions" etc.
The public being those of us who place wagers.

I think many people in the general public, sports fans that is, have an idea that there is some shady things going on in horse racing, and frankly they think the human athlete is PED'd to the hilt, I dont think its that surprising really deep down, just confirmation what they already suspected.

My question would be Why was the inquiry stopped into the failed drug tests.
Answer that and put this to rest.

It was stopped because the horse won the triple crown and tested clean subsequently in those races. I guarantee you had he not tested clean they would have no swept this under the rug.
Its a bit of a no win situation for them, months after the triple crown you are going to come out with some ruling saying the TC winner was doped up in the SA Derby. Again it would have ONLY resulted in his DQ from the SA purse in October when the ruling would have been official.
