actually I really like listening to him. I think he's totally unique sounding and passionate. Plus he called at Portland Meadows, so that instantly moves him up in my book!

Watched the replay. He called the #2 who was 36-1. I was there last Wednesday. My buddy was in the restroom for a race and he said they piped in the call of the race so loudly. He bets all bombs too. Now that would have been a ballbuster to hear the announcer call a longshot a winner. You come out of the crapper feeling so good.....only to look at the tote board.

We were at Tampa Bay Downs for the first time on Saturday. Had a great day, albeit with few winners and the old country joint was jammed avec some Spa pretend uniforms in the Clubhouse.

My buddy said about Grunder LIVE: " I can't understand WTF he's saying."

Now, maybe the sound system is ancient, but tough to make out the call with his odd voice, let alone if he's FUBARing the call itself.

Race Callers...

The 2 worst are Tampa Bay,his voice is annoying, and Bataglia (?) at Turfway, feels like you want to drag the words out of his mouth.
I have to shut off the volume when they do a race.......

Beemer, you are a terrific race caller. The only problem is that you don't get good exposure because you are working at Portland Meadows.

Well...working at Portland Meadows DOES have its advantages...in a way. It takes longer for the Portland Meadows horses to run their races...so the argument COULD be made that the Portland Meadows race caller gets more "exposure" than, say...the guy who calls the races at Turf Paradise.

I 100% agree. Part of the excitement to me in horse racing, and what drew me in at 18 years old is the great races with exciting calls, not just the thrill of winning money.

Dave Rodman, Kurt Becker, Vic stauffer, and especially the late great Luke Kruytbosch these are the great announcers in my 10 year horse racing experience. We need more exciting guys like these !!!
