Cmon Charlie at Delta, by 29 and Three Quarters.
First time starter Cmon Charlie won tonight at Delta, according to Equibase, by 29 and 3/4th lengths.
This was a maiden 10k race, and "chuck" was sired by My Pal Charlie.
He was claimed out of the race and paid 4-5.
I dont remember ever seeing a larger margin of victory, especially on a small track, its not like this was a mile and a half race at Belmont.

Cheapie maiden fave vs. a bad bunch in the slop over a sealed track; lotsa wacky longshot results on the card earlier--I chalk it up to a funky racing surface.
You have to admit though, he was moving like a tremendous machine!

He was a firster and got claimed...i don't know about the la derby or anything but they all start somewhere and he looked pretty good...what did the Beyer come back?

Just watched the replay.....23.4 1st Quater...49.00 at the half.....Final time 1:34 and change for 7 1/2 F. Jockey pumping horse hard while whipping left handed mid stretch....Kind of dumb on his part. If you watch 1/ 2 way down the back stretch he ask the horse to go. And he does take off and widen then. Wait and see on anything over 12,500 winners as a career and a fast track. Will be fun to watch..Putting him in my stable of horses to watch next time out.

They couldn't give him that extra quarter length, and say he won by 30?
Some people....... 
When a horse is that far in front at the wire, it's guesswork.

Likely will repeat for the new barn at a very short price in a NW2L claimer, and perhaps again at the next level, or even the next two levels, but after that? Or the new barn may not even risk him in a claimer but try first level allowance runners next out. Better still, go downstate to Fair Grounds, which still has 3 1/2 weeks to go in the meeting, and try much better there, and then we will see if he really is a good one with a bright future.

Horse ran about a 77 TimeformUS figure, above average for the class, but I wouldn't be making any supplemental Derby payments or anything.

Would a chartcaller eyeball a margin that big, or do they look at the photo finish strip, and use some sort of algorithm to calculate the margin based on the final times of the 2 horses?

Beaten lengths at the finish are determined by the photo finish camera.

The other remarkable thing about that chart is the two horses who dead-heated for last place some 60 lengths behind the winner.

There is a race in the book saturday which is for 3yo's who broke their maidens for 25k or less starter/allw. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if the new connections put him in that spot even though it's back quickly...

Very suspicious. Delta Downs has a promotion that the owner of any horse who wins a race by 30 lengths or more will receive a free dinner for two at the Jean Lafitte Cafe. I suspect they were trying to avoid giving that prize.

If the jockey had hit the horse 4 or 5 more times they might have scored dinner.
I have heard it all now. The fine dining fix was in.
