Ditto. She was a filly/mare who when they named her...they got it right. Was never any doubt whether she'd be sent for the lead.
Could have been claimed for $25K in her debut, but went on to earn $2.4 mil in 35 races over 4 years--26 wins.

Xtra Heat is the last horse I remember being personally able to make the "guaranteed winning bet" on. The bridgejumpers would load so much on her to show in a 5 horse field that you could bet $100 on her and $2 on each of the others to show and walk away with a measly profit if she finished top 3 and a decent profit if she didn't. (Never got more than the measly profit - but it WAS guaranteed!!)
Don't know if she was the impetus for the rules being changed in Delaware and Maryland, but I know there was show betting in 5 horse fields in both states when she ran there in 2001, and there was only place betting in that size of a field in 2002.

Xtra Heat was that good, wouldn't surprise me if she was the reason for changing wager rules.

How did you learn about the death of Xrtra Heat? I've been unable to find any news or press release as to that fact, let alone a single tweet. I've also checked the social media for her owner, Woodford Thorougbreds, and I've seen nothing there either.
If she's actually dead, a Hall of Famer and Eclipse Champion deserves better.

Still makes utterly no sense that no outlet has reported her death, or that Woodford hasn't acknowledged it.

An old favorite of mine...
Chindi, aged 29.
Raced 81 times and won over a million dollars.
18 wins
13 seconds
23 thirds
Almost white in color - a deep closer who brought a wicked late kick almost every time.
Did his best work at Oaklawn.
I'd love to see his lifetime pp's.
Good horse

His best work at Oaklawn included these last 18 years as a stable pony for trainer Steve Hobby after retiring from racing at age ELEVEN - got an allowance win that last year. He was not happy out in a field, wanted to be at the track. Was still going out to the track to accompany morning training as late as last week.
