The KD will likely change its entry rules to allow for a panel to vote in a couple horses they believe should be in the race that don’t have the requisite points and this problem goes away
That's not true. There's been a year of headlines that Justify failed a drug test and the sport covered it up.

It makes us look awful.

As for "the problem going away", even with such a rule, it would have been absolutely unacceptable for Justify to be voted in after failing a drug test. Basically, to do so CD would be giving credit to his Santa Anita Derby win even though it was a doped performance.

Nobody is reading the headlines on a horse that should’ve been DQ’d 2 years ago outside of a tiny fraction of horse racing fans, most of whom likely don’t care. Those headlines are not being read by anybody outside of California, a state where a claimer that breaks down in training will draw in viewers and protesters more than a situation like Justify’s

And fwiw the sport did not cover it up. A handful in leadership in California covered it up. A fitting resolution to this would be to remove the Santa Anita Derby as a KD prep

The sport absolutely did cover it up. Yes, the immediate cause was a corrupt California regulatory board, but the broader problem is that MANY corners are cut on doping enforcement in this sport. This is just one example of it. The sport has tolerated lax doping enforcement for decades because that is what the most powerful people want.

And yes, I would have no objection if CD stripped the Santa Anita Derby of its points over this. It would be a wakeup call.

Its a good prep race.

why have 1 less good race which punishes.......everyone.

Get rid of every single person who was involved in that CHRB coverup, that way you don't end up having the same problem with "other races" there.

No brainer.

We don't need less races. We need less cheaters.

Honest horsemen can still make money off this race. I'm not in favor of getting rid of it at all.

Just noticed a 2yo on the work tab owned by the Ruis family named Jimson Legend. Wonder how that's going to go over with the Baffert barn.

and the rake is lower for all those mentioned. the only thing that seems to have a higher rake is the lottery.

Yes, the CHRB covered it up. Justify should not have been allowed to race in the Kentucky Derby. The CHRB has committed corruption on a few occasions, certainly in this situation. And, again with Baffert, when 7 of his horses died from heart failure, they had an investigation and found no wrong doing. This was total corruption. One of the board members owns horses with Baffert, or did at the time, and they are friends. I knew at the time that the would go easy on Baffert but I did think that he would get some of suspension. He should have been banned from racing for at least a year, but they didn't even fine him for killing 7 horses with some sort of drug or drugs that he used.
