Then of course there's the 1.7 million people in Manhattan as Class mentions. Other central/south Jersey counties also have Phila as an option. The population demographics are also completely different, so a 9x Club Med to Monmouth ratio doesn't really surprise me.

You are, of course, correct. Just wanted to say that.
Monmouth's racing product hasn't been attractive for a while now, mostly due to the same horse shortage that everyone else is dealing with except they're competing with tracks that have casinos. That's why there's always a battle for purse subsidies---other tracks have 1000 slot machines to provide subsidies. If the day ever comes, like was discussed in the spring, where PA takes the slot revenue from Parx at a much higher rate and that track returns to the purse levels it had 15 years ago, then maybe Monmouth will have a shot at getting better fields.

Also Sunday they took the races off the grass in the middle of the card(it was not raining, I never heard the reason given). What are they saving the turf for this late in the season? They also own the OTB in Woodbridge which is poorly run. It's very obvious management are horse people, not gambling people.

True. They should have pivoted the schedule when NYRA shut down for nearly 2 weeks. Regarding Sunday, we had gotten a lot of rain here Thursday- and I think it was a bit localized so maybe not everyone got it- the course isn't drying well due to cooler days and they were clearly chewing it up and times were quite slow, but still I was still surprised. Maybe a safety concern. They still did >$5 million on a football Sunday which was >2x 9/8/19 and 2.5x 9/15/19 (with Belmont running), which speaks to why they should have been running 9/11!

I wasn't following what the tracks/gambling entities were doing up front. How did Meadowlands/Fan Duel get people signed up early?

my guess is that the federal government will probably legalize sports betting and marribella, and tax the shit out of both of them.
that will mean that people all over will be able to blow their brains out and run around higher than kite coast to coast. people are already gambling on equity markets daily, so why not sports.

Re: the turf course last Sunday. The riders decided the turf was unsafe after 2(?) races. You could see going in to both turns a number of horses struggling with traction and they were tearing it up though it seemed fine everywhere else on the course.
We had a horse in a later race for the grass and it coming off mid card has about summed up 2020 and this poor horses luck. Earlier in the year was in a stake which you’d think was safe but nope it rained a little and off the turf it came!

Bingo! Location, location, location. Monmouth also doesn’t advertise as much as the Meadowlands seems someone fell asleep at the switch on that part of the business model.
