Thank you. It does seem to make a little more sense.

You're welcome!
I attached a screenshot of what I created through the Numbers software (equivalent to Excel on Windows) on the Mac. Using the new E% formula, it shows Bombardeo using 67.4% of his energy by the time he reached the second call going 5F on the turf at Del Mar. If you used the old formula calculation, then it would show that he used 50.9% instead. The switch was warranted.

Example for those curious:
Horse 22, 45, 1:10
Old way:
EP---58.67
3F---52.80
TE---111.47
%E--52.63
New Way
1F---60.00
2F---57.39
3F---52.80
%E--68.98

That's a big difference.

I use both, actually, but my preference is the old way because I have used a version that did not use the 1st call. I used the SP as a speed figure and the EP and F3 as it's components, with %E as to how it was earned.

I liked the first version because 50% was almost a dividing line for me in a lot of situations. You could see what horses wanted to stretch out and which might like turf, etc. I guess you get used to this with the new version but I thought the early one was just fine.

Once you set up the format all you have to do is transport the figures into it and it's done. It is nice to invent your own ratings though. If you look at things your imagination has to lead somewhere.

Have you looked into the software program RDSS? It's based on the Sartin Methodology algorithms. The program and data files are relatively inexpensive.
