They should retire him to the breeding shed.

He's a Cal-bred and the connections have been waiting for California to tear out the plastic. They finally said to hell with it, and went to Phoenix.

reminded me of one in Nebraska

Can't remember the name, but the owner/trianer/groom had a non-descript horse that played well at aksarben...the rest of the year he chased wolves or coyotes, plowed, and anything else his person needed, including pulling the vehicle into to town one time.

When I saw this one in the race, I guessed he'd been someone's cattle horse on an AZ ranch. Does anyone know his background? I'm reasonably sure he wasn't in someone's back yard. I was hoping for a look in the pre-race but didn't get a glimpse.

I think I just gave away my age. That could my excuse if my memory is faulty...heard that Off'NClear had to race in Canada at 10 because he was too old for U.S.

I don't think he has anything left to prove.

Do you remember the pony that "came out of retirement" to win at Pomona... let's see now, gosh, around ten years ago?... that's probably the most useful background...
