In the literal sense, "out-of-pocket" vs. acct is a different set of emotions and strategy.
at an ADW, my pick-3s,p4s... would be a 'stab', early $opinions - to fairly heavy favs, or a heavily favored duo in the final leg.
If I managed to be 'alive', I would sometimes hedge my bets with any remaining cash, - to be sure I walked away with something that day.
Love the option of the ADW. Occasionally enjoy live racing or a casino/OTB atmosphere.

Where's your introspection, Andy? I am not the one carrying on some feud like a toddler, leaping into threads hurling gratuitous insults at someone for no purpose.
I saw a thread on my Twitter feed recently about how you lost some popularity vote regarding public handicappers. And at first, a couple of people spoke, correctly, about what a great handicapper you are.
But that was followed by a number of people jumping in and basically calling you a nasty, disagreeable person. People I have never met. And saying maybe that has something to do with why people won't vote for you as a great handicapper.
I don't need any introspection here. I come in here, state my opinion, and leave it at that. You, on the other hand, are apparently hated by a lot of people. Maybe if you learn to be civil with people you might find people are more willing to credit your accomplishments. And if not- well, at least you won't look so petty and immature.

These exist in every game where there is advantage play. There are poker players who play too many hands (and online players who play too many tables) or play too high stakes, there are sports bettors who bet too many games, there are stock traders who make too many trades, etc.
And obviously making it super-easy to bet a far greater number of races is going to bring out that tendency in horseplayers. People are going to bet tracks they don't follow or know very well, bet races they don't really have a strong edge in, and just bet too many races overall.
One of the big reasons it is very hard to win money in any form of advantage gambling is because one of the reasons people are attracted to gambling in the first place- and again, not only the true problem gamblers- is the action.
And further, it's also human nature to want to have expert opinions on lots of things that we aren't qualified to have expert opinions on. A great example of that phenomenon is all the people who moved over from sports betting to political punditry (some of whom moved over again to become epidemiologists this year). The tendency is to think that you have an expert opinion on any race you look at.
At bottom unless you are very lucky or have connections, it's very hard to succeed at anything worthwhile in life without a lot of discipline. Which means knowing what you don't know and having enormous patience. In poker, that means sitting at a table and just folding over and over again if all you are getting is crap cards in bad situations. And in horse racing, it means not betting stuff where you don't have any edge.

Andy's comments aside, which were worth an impersonal chuckle anyway, this is a very well thought out, coherent post.
The potential to toss discipline to the side is overwhelming for me. I'll go weeks playing well, and then one Sunday afternoon, I'll get that action bug itching me, and discipline goes off with the wind. Makes for a double edged sword. The ADWs make it so much more convenient to spot play, but also to throw caution to the wind and go nuts.
As an aside, going over to the off topic, it plays out the same way. Reading thread after thread, not making any comments, and then, discipline out the door, and an involuntary, vitriolic post seems to find it's way from my head to my fingers to the keyboard. Then, I have to vow to myself to stop going over there......until the next time.

I find it interesting you use the words toddler, immature and petty...when this entire post reads like the words of a petty, immature toddler.
It’s okay to laugh at yourself and admit you aren’t the foremost authority on everything. Someone who actually is introspective would’ve taken his joke for what it was....a joke. I’m sure I wasn’t alone in laughing at it. I’m sure lots of people here laughed when they read it because it was funny and true. You took it as an insult. Very telling, wouldn’t you say?
Someone is carrying on a feud here and I’m sure everyone can see who that is. Maybe if you learn to not take yourself so seriously and are more willing to admit when you are wrong, people would take you more seriously. And if not- well at least you won’t look so petty and immature.

Dahoss, Andy jumps into threads to insult me. He has done this repeatedly. Because of that, there's no reason I have to view these things as a joke- he is being nasty and petty. (And as I note, just recently, there was a Twitter thread with a bunch of people saying he has these same qualities.)
I have no feud. I don't EVER jump into threads to insult Andy. Indeed, I always say nice things about him. (You will notice that I even called him a great handicapper in the post you responded to.) I make posts here. Andy makes it personal, because he has some sort of problems.
And given that's the history, your post reads as gaslighting, pretending that the target was the perpetrator. It's quite bad.

This entire post pretty much reinforces what I said. You take yourself too seriously. You’re being petty. Bringing up a twitter thread?
It’s okay to laugh at yourself. It’s okay to admit you’re wrong once in awhile.
Your last paragraph is perfect. Don’t ever change.

See....you do have a sense of humor! Not about yourself of course but it’s in there somewhere.

I can laugh at myself. There's simply a difference between a person who you normally have friendly interactions with calling me a know-it-all or something (which can be quite funny!) and a person who repeatedly jumps into threads to say I'm "always wrong", my "perfect record of wrongness remains intact", etc., jumping on a comment that another user here called substantive and helpful to hurl an insult at me.
You can only see this the way you are portraying it by taking it completely out of its context.

I’m just trying to come to terms with some people on Twitter not liking me. This is a crushing blow. I try so hard to model myself after social media posters.

But you’re not carrying on a feud....
Have you ever admitted you were wrong about anything on this board or twitter?

Yes. In both places. Indeed, I just admitted I got something wrong in the "Terrific Rides" thread. I blamed Jen Pyfer for strategy when she had lost her iron in a race where she got way out in front of the rest of the horses.
A few days ago, on Twitter, I misunderstood a tweet about journalists to be about lawyers, and said something that was totally stupid as a result. And again, I said I was wrong.
Those are just in the last few days. I get stuff wrong all the time.
Here's some more stuff I got wrong:
1. I thought when businesses would be forced to shut back down in the fall and winter, this would include shutting down sports. So I predicted the Derby and BC would not happen. I was wrong. They did.
2. I didn't think that the local California tracks would be able to get the death numbers down by redesigning their dirt tracks. They have done so. (Let's cross our fingers this continues!)
3. I thought Maximum Security would go down the tubes after he switched barns. He isn't quite as good, but he still won a Grade I race for Baffert and is very competitive.
That's just stuff I can think of off the top of my head. Stuff I was dead, dead wrong about. I am sure there is plenty more.
So, no, your supposition that I can't admit I am wrong is incorrect.
