Miss Hong Kong? Play Korea!!

I didn't even know they had racing in South Korea, but tonight Twinspires is carrying the first 11 of 15 races from Busan. If the currency conversions are correct, the horses are actually running for decent money, though nothing like our favorite Asian track Sha Tin.

It appears the surface is synthetic (dirt), and is a whopping 1 1/4 miles round (2000 m), with a 450 meter straight (1476 feet!). So if you like a closer, they'll have plenty of time to get there. Here's a site with alternative PPs to the skeletal ones provided by BRIS:

A thread here from 2008 indicates the takeout may be very high, and until I see more than $13 in the win pool, we won't know if it's co-mingled. So if betting (along with my degenerate self), be careful.

Good luck.

It wasnt co mingled and the win and exacta pools were about $600 each. I have no idea what the takeout was.

South Korea does not allow commingling. Plans are to have other countries in a separate pools with the US being one of them. My understanding is that initially it will just be US and Canada with others added over the coming weeks.

Without the commingling of pools it greatly diminishes any potential appeal of the product.

Under construction - down to 12 finalists for 2017.

I tuned in last night for a couple of races, and here's my impression:

Ups:
- full fields
- decent camera work
- hosts are okay, take turns calling the races, one is a Korean gal, and the other a Limey.
- nice, relaxing piano music between races versus the "noise" some American tracks prefer
- takeout in win pool appeared to be around 20 or 22%, which seems about par with Australian and South American racing - hub in Toronto?

Downs:
- small pools
- speed figures in PPs and online appear to have little or no relation to predicting a horse's chances
- host hub clicks tote to the next race before the horses even reach the finish line - very annoying
- some odd payouts, with 21 cents for a 20 cent super in numerous races, and at least one with a $1.05 exacta and tri. So if nobody has the winning combo, they don't appear to pay "all" partial combos.

I think I'll be saving my dough for September when Hong Kong is back.

20% on win and place.

25% on exactas, tris, supers.

27% on pick 3 and pick 4.

It might mean that no one had it and the wagers were refunded.
