2020 U.S. Presidential Election Contenders
On the Republican side, Trump is the obvious favorite in the 2020 election.
Are there any other serious contenders who could give him a run for his money?
On the Dem side, I see plenty of contenders, but I don't see any who can beat Trump.

I would think John Kasich will try a run against him, assuming he remains in office until 2020.

Good one! I don't know why he slipped my mind. I'm from Ohio! I like Kasich. He would have a shot. He is not as pushy as Trump and being pushy is what got Trump elected. I'm not sure if Kasich is as sharp as Trump. He doesn't seem to have the moxie that is needed to beat Trump. Trump will be even stronger in the next election.
Trump never seriously tried running in the 1990s against Bill Clinton. He knew Clinton was a very shrewd politician. He would have lost.
He received 15,000 votes in a primary in California as a member of the Reform Party in 2000, but probably figured beating W was too tough. W had too much backing from the Republican establishment.
Trump led in the Republican polls in 2011, but decided not to run against Obama. He knew Obama was very bright and it would be too tough of a fight.
His chance finally came when he ran against Hillary. She was no match for him. He prepared for almost 30 years, waited for the right cycle, and then struck while the iron was hot.

I don't think Trump had any intention of winning the Presidency.
I also put his odds at about 50/50 to run in 2020.

Yeah, he didn't even try and ending up trashing two political dynasties along the way, first Jeb! Bush and then the Witch Hillary...…Not bad for having no intention.

He had been talking about running for president since I read his book "Art of the Deal" back in the 80s. He's probably been thinking about it since he was a kid when he was the guy in military school who was the leader of the marching band -- you know, the one with the big hat and carrying a baton.

He's a self-promoter before anything else. Always kicking the idea around keeps the name and brand out there.

right now Trump's election odds are +150 and Pence is +1500. i would take the 15-1 on Pence and lay against Trump.
nothing to single out yet on the Democrats side of things.

A lot could happen between now and 2020. DJT should be worrying more about his health than re-election. He doesn't look like the healthiest specimen, no matter what his phoney baloney doctors say....

If Trump weren't running for some reason, does Pence have the charisma to win the nomination? Should Trump suddenly not be the candidate, I don't see any front runners from the previous R candidates with the exception of Cruz. I think it would draw the Nikki Haley's out of the woodwork 4-8 years earlier than their planned timeline. But I'm not a student of political science.

i just put out the line i saw on Pence, Nikki Haley is probably the only republican that can win next cycle. boy is she a very sharp person, she is not careless like Hillary was.

He's out after this year, so he'll either have plenty of time to campaign, or plenty of time for people to forget about him.
