Oh stop it. Poor people...they have no self control? They can't be responsible for their own actions.

If a person CHOOSES to piss away their money on the lottery, rich or poor, too bad. That was their poor choice.

Everyone knows the game going in...plenty of people have pissed all their money away on the horses too...is that also a tax on poor people?

There are fundamental differences between lotteries and turf speculation. For one thing, the latter is a game of skill and chance, whereas lotto playing is pure chance.

Also, state governments, generally, are in the public's face pushing lotto sales because the states have a huge stake in lotto sales. How many commercials do we hear on the radio or see on the TV that try to sell gambling at a race track or through the internet? The one thing lotto states won't do is educate/warn the public on the dangers of gambling. We see federally-mandated warnings printed on tobacco products, but we won't be seeing those kinds of warnings on how gambling can be detrimental to your financial well being or financial security.

Having said that, though, I do agree with you that everyone is entitled to make their own choices in such matters, including what a person wants to eat or drink, etc.
