voter identification suppresses votes
at least that is what the democrats keep saying - maybe they mean it suppresses MULTIPLE votes from same person.

Just a bunch of baseless crap, you need identification to do numerous things in this country. The Democrats claim voter I.D. suppresses the poorest of our citizens. Applying a little common sense many of the poorest of our citizens could be using some form of public assistance. Can a person get medicaid, food stamps, or public housing without identification? Even if you were 100 years old and living with you grandchildren you would need I.D. to open a bank account to deposit or cash your social security checks.
Voter I.D. helps stop voter fraud, which in states like California means illegal immigrants voting, and who the hell do you think illegal immigrants would vote for? States have various rules on voting requirements, no I.D. required in California where I used to live and registering was easy and quick. Here in Virginia I actually got a rejection letter the first time I tried to register to vote claiming I didn't answer all the questions. You also need I.D. here to vote and you must recite your name and address while a poll worker is holding your I.D. and staring at you. I wonder the percentage of eligible impoverished voters that vote in Virginia compared to California?
Also in California they have "Votar Aqui" signs at polling places. Are you telling me there are citizens of the USA that don't know or can't learn what "Vote Here" means so they have to post the Spanish translation? Sounds like rolling out the red carpet to get illegals from south of the border to vote.

Are you saying people are not getting welfare because they have no ID?
If you are eligible and the only thing stopping you from getting it is and ID, your are TOO FREAKING STUPID TO DESERVE IT.
ANYONE can get the required ID.

the Russians have been so crafty and were so good at manipulating the last election in ways unknown to most of us, voter identification cards will be necessary to keep them from changing the outcome of the next presidential election.

Absolutely this whole Russian debacle makes it even more critical to enact voter id. After all if your dumb enough to be brainwashed by Russia to vote for trump you might be dumb enough to forget where you live so you need id so you will always have your address

ID's cost money. Except in a few states where I know they've enacted a few laws to give IDs for free. (Wisconsin(?) comes to mind.)
I'm not against voter ID but if it costs the voter money the argument that it's a poll tax can be used.
State Vs. National ID is an interesting debate. I wouldn't care if we did away with ID's and just went passport only.

There is no reason for male citizens of voting age not to have I.D., since all men that are citizens of the U.S.A. are required to register for the draft.
In New York, state workers are not allowed to ask about immigration status.
State I.Ds. are issued to anyone without I.D. that requests welfare benefits.
I know this because I personally directed many illegal immigrants to the welfare department in the South Bronx.
All of the people that I saw at a later date did acquired benefits and I.D.
