Arrogate = Richest Racehorse?
What are the odds of Arrogate surpassing Chromes earning record? He's 3 million short of tying the record. Now if he wins Dubai, Delmar, and Gulfstream then he would have accomplished something Chrome couldn't not to mention some of the races in between. What do you guys think of this topic?

Was Arrogate served a special dinner after the Pegasus?

Kind of crazy, A horse wins 3 races and he's almost the highest earner. Just think if they had these types of races and purses when Cigar went on his 5YO campaign he'd probably have 20 million in earnings.

And the money won in the Travers Stakes, THE TRAVERS STAKES, amounts to a measly pittle of that total.

As I kept explaining to Chromies this proves earnings isn't a significant baramoter of talent.
The Dubai World Cup has a $10Million purse yet races like the Met Mile, Whitney, PA Classic have equal or better fields most years.
Chronies acted like these races were 1/10 as significant.

Thanks for the explanation. Until just now I thought a horses earnings did equate to how good they were. I have been handicapping the wrong way for years now.
I am glad to see a group of fans like the chromies. I don't think we get two minutes on the CBS morning news without those fans. I fail to understand why people get worked up about other fans love of a particular horse. I loved Zenyatta but I loved Rachel as well. It does not have to be one or the other.

I know, they keep adding 10mil races soon the Travers will be a Grade 3
I could be wrong but I think I read the wood memorial has been demoted to a Grade 2, never would have thought I'd see that happen.

Short memory or just not a fan back then, but Wood Memorial was a G2 from 1995-2001 as well, Blue Grass was in the same boat for much of the 1990's too.

I didn't know that. I just always assumed that it was G1. Watched it from the early 80's till now and seriously didn't remember that. If you post the Travers was G2 back then I'm going to have to dig out every old Racing Form I have and see just what else I'm delusional too

I just now picked a name from the late 90's that I knew had run in the Wood and looked him up on Equibase, Captain Bodgit, and the chart for that day in 1997 says it was a G2.

I share the sames sentiment as alot of people on here. With these insane purses esp with the casino subs horses can make alot of money, but doesnt necessarily make them one of the best horses of all time. Really puts it in perspective when you walk through the HOF and see some all time greats with life time earnings that are paltry compared to some horses now.

Come on man, facts are easily available within a 5 second search of the internet, you went 0 for 2 on your statement here. Perhaps I'm in a touchy mood because facts are apparently a thing of the past (sorry, does this count as being political?)
At least your baseball memory was still spot on with Kirk Gibson's home run
