new term, to me anyhow.

Gulfstream race 9 on 12/22/23 chart has both #9 and #11 "cued" into the far turn. "was cued passing the quarter" and "was cued into the far turn". I've been reading charts for 40 years and I don't ever remember that phrase. Any one familiar with this?

I think the cue could mean that the jockey was changing or "cued" leads at those points of the call.

That's the only thing I could think of.

Maybe. Watching the replay, the 1/4 pole was when the horse that the "quarter" was referenced changed leads. I really can't see it with the one referenced "into the far turn". Thanks for the reply.

You sometimes hear a race caller say "and now <Name of Horse> is given his cue."

I've also heard it said like this "and now <Last Name of Rider> releases the brakes."

Imo, both refer to the same thing.

The rider just let the horse know "It's time," most often through use of the hands without contact from the stick. Most often up to that point the horse was rating under restraint.

Right. The jockey "cued" the horse, meaning that the jockey gave the horse the "cue" to go. The same as one would give you the "cue" to go onto stage, or to begin a speech.
