I remember as the meeting drew to a close this spring, Stauffer mentioned somewhere (Twitter?) that he and his wife were building a house near Oaklawn. Doubt that would be happening without a contract renewal.

I don’t mind him. Do appreciate that he’s a contest player. Definitely enjoyed some of his big race calls.

On a side note, the Old Friends commercial that talks about “child prodigy” Afternoon Delites with the race call of the Hollywood Futurity - is that Stauffer on the call, or before his time? I can’t place the voice.

Michael Wrona at Grants Pass is like Wynton Marsalis bugling horses onto the track or LeBron James playing in a pickup game.

Oaklawn is, indeed, lucky to have him. If they replaced him, they would probably have someone who isn't as good.

Vic has been involved in a lot of spirited exchanges here and doesn't always come off very well, but to act like he's a no-talent bum as an announcer isn't fair either. He's still one of the most recognizable voices in the business (and an excellent handicapper too) and I'm sure Oaklawn is happy to have him there.

But right now I am in Hong Kong and will be attending the races at Happy Valley tomorrow night. I won't understand a word of the calls but will still enjoy the sport immensely.
Attended the races in Bangkok when I was in Thailand for a military exercise. I had no clue what I was doing nor was I able to figure it out. But it was a good time.

I like VIC, I think he has a great voice for calling races. If mistakes are made, IMO probably has to do with not calling races on a full time basis. Inactivity can make anyone rusty.

Heres one of the races BTW

It's like Marv Albert calling a high school basketball game

He makes a cheap race as exciting as the Breeders' Cup.

Must be a thrill for the owners of Pure Brightness to watch and listen to that video.
