Steve Crist article on NYRA
In my opinion Steve Crist wrote one of his better articles on the NYRA Board. Check it out at DRF.

I thought it was spot on, great column. But frustrating because it's the same old story of people who don't know anything about racing being in charge. Once Cuomo got involved you knew it couldn't be good. People forget that his father ran the Jets and Giants out of New York.

How long before the NRYA supporters trash everything he said like they do whenever anyone trashes their scared cow?

Nobody listens to him. He's like the lunatic screaming on the subway. People either turn their music up or go to a different car. Here we have the ignore feature, and unless dopes like you quote him, nobody reads his posts.

i have a question for you andy that has been bothering me for quite awhile. often a ton of money seems to appear in the NYRA pool after the last flash before they close the gates and the race goes off. in the 7th race today my friend tells me that the final flash showed $173,000 being bet vs. $113,000 before the gates closed. and the payoff on the winner dropped from $13 to $8.80. Why can't the powers that be update the pools every 5 seconds or so in this era of modern technology?

This is a question that has been discussed here off and on many times through the years.
The bottom line is MONEY. It costs money to upgrade the entire pari-mutuel system, and until tracks are pressured to do this they aren't going to part with the cash.
And as for Andy answering your question, he's nothing but a glorified handicapper...this type of question is way above his NYRA pay grade...and he's probably way too busy capping tomorrow's card to answer anyway...(and since he just called me a dope, he shouldn't mind me picking on him a little bit with my "glorified handicapper" comment... )

Maybe we need more technological advances, 2013 may as well be the stone age as far as racing is concerned.

This is one of many threads discussing the tote. Notice the date of this thread, 2008 and we are still worrying about this stuff unfortunately.

I'm already finished with next Wednesday.
I have also learned to ignore the endless questions that have absolutely nothing to do with my job. I have even almost stopped wondering why the heck people even ask them.
