California horsemen are not running/training any more unsound horses than anywhere else in the country. When the track goes to hell is when the unsoundness becomes magnified. It happened in Phoenix and now California. And the industry knows it. And thatís why Cby is totally redoing their track to stay ahead of the issues

So why were horses breaking down on turf also?

Why do many people keep saying Lasix like it's the only med being banned. It's all race day meds - the NSAIDs, Bute (if that's an NSAID sorry for being redundant), etc...

If it just the track, then re-opening is unacceptable.
With another breakdown the other day, the problem is not fixed.
Time to cancel the season and move it all to GG - two of FRanky's tracks combine might mean some days with full fields. Just Share the card - no reason you can't card a SA stake at GG on the same day their $28 claimers run.

Horse run on wet grass in Europe every day.

Dirt - turf - races - works......

Fair to say as a former trainer youíre hesitant to blame the horsemen?

Seriously cracks me up how many people think the monsoon rains in Arcadia this year and these breakdowns are just a big coincidence...

It's the same horseman running there that have been there forever, using the same drugs they have used forever and the same drugs their counterparts across the country use.

Meanwhile Arcadia has the most rain it has seen in decades...

Now I'm not saying the rain by itself is the entire issue, I don't think the track officials handled the rain up to par with what folks in europe or even the east coast would. Those tracks just get more rain, so they are (obviously) better at handling it.

Itís a combination of things. But to want to just blame the track (which riders and experts have said is fine) is shortsighted. To pretend that perfectly sound horses are heading to the track and breaking down is unrealistic.

The only thing thatís changed is the amount of rain and this track wasnít designed to handle much rain. Tin foil hats need not apply

So you think that unsound horses exist only in California?
Or is it that medications only cause breakdowns in California?

The only thing different about this meet at Santa Anita than 100's of others it held before was the rain. It's affect on the track and how the track officials managed the surface during the rain should be front and center issue #1. What have the really come out and told us about what they have found?

Letís assume you and Chad are correct. How do you explain the turf breakdowns? Please donít say wet turf like he did. My head might explode.
