Hall Of Fame Jockey Prado Announces Retirement

Jockey Edgar Prado has retired from the sport, the Hall of Fame rider said June 20. He ends his career ninth in all-time North American earnings with $272,008,849. The Peru native is eighth all-time in North American wins with 7,119 while riding in 39,725 races.

He last rode on Jan. 6 at Gulfstream Park.

Prado twice won the 2006 Kentucky Derby (G1) aboard Barbaro and the Belmont Stakes (G1).

That last sentence was brutal. Looks like they updated it on the website, though.

Paddington blew past Chaldean (who was on the lead) like he was standing still & won by open lengths. Chaldean barely saved the second spot...

Good for him

He hasn't ridden many horses the last few years--always has been one of my favorites-made plenty of $$$ back in the days--I remember when he moved his tack from Maryland to New York--wishing him well on his retirement

From everything I've ever heard about Jockey Edgar Prado above all else I had always heard that he was an A1 Class Act of a human being. I wish him a fantastic and well- deserved retirement. Here's to you Edgar!!

He was never the same after he got hurt. I was just happy to see him get back up on a horse
