"There Ain't Enough Whiskey in Tennesee to Drink the Ugly Off a' You"
Not sure, but I think this was on a Billy Ray Cyrus album.

Most great composers have clunkers.
Webb has fewer than most. He's probably made more off this tune than most. Go figure.

I hadn't realized he penned "By the Time I Get to Phoenix", "Wichita Lineman" & "Galveston." All sound tunes but he clearly has the jones to write about towns. I'm working on a tune, Poughkeepsie Nightmare, but it lacks fluidity. Perhaps I should change it to Bakersfield or Indio.

Don't be sill, that's as clever as 10CC's "I hang your picture upon the wall. It hides the nasty stain that's lying there" from I'm not in Wove.

Headed home from Jersey, rolling up the northway,
Too much coffee and food deprived, the exit guides my way
I can't pronounce the name on the sign and frankly that's just fine,
One point five miles away, a toilet at a diner joint will consecrate my day.
But when I find that place to dine, a retro dive sans the coffee geek,
I'm alarmed to learn they offer only grits and not a place to take a leak.
The Pough-keep-sie Night-mare, I was unaware...
Nothing works and nothings right
(a rest stop with a population)
And broads that even scare the light
The pough-keep-sie Night-mare, if you wind up there...
Don't go left and don't go right,
(that means straight dont you know)
Take the on-ramp after the off-ramp and continue out of sight
(Based on a true story)

Billy Swan, in the wake of his success with "I Can Help", came out with a song that actually received AM air play (that's how I learned of it) called "I'm Her Fool", which contained the lyric, "I run like a dog when she calls me, 'Cause she pets me when I bury my bone."
Then there was the tender opening to the Nilsson recording, "You're Breaking My Heart": "You're breaking my heart, you're tearing it apart, so f*** you."
I never did explore the lyrics of the Chris Jagger (brother of Mick) tune, "Finger in Your Pie", but the title certainly was a grabber.
