Unless something has changed, OU & Texas are heading to SEC, I believe they start 2025. Tv rights agreement ends and then they can go. But, Cincy,BYU,HOU, & UCF is supposed to join Big 12 in 2023 per article on google.

Mega-conferences are a bad idea. Sixteen teams should be the limit. Consider for a moment the number of Division 1 teams that compete for a national title. Many obviously would never be considered, but there exist the possibility none the less. Putting dollar value aside, which I realize is huge, there would be dozens of legitimate contenders with zero chance of getting to the quarterfinals.
College football is probably my favorite sport, and they're on the verge of wrecking it.

Ohio State alumnus here, so adjust for my bias.
No team outside of a power 5 conference has made it to the final game. The few that were chosen to compete got blown out in the semifinal. I'm not worried about those poor teams who went undefeated against lesser competition. I believe the emergence of 2 or 3 power conferences from 5 will only more level the playing field for recruiting and transferring. The third string QB on a power 3 team will have his chance at another power 3 school by transferring. And that logic carries over to recruiting.
My next choice would be to stop playing football at universities. With NIL, they've converted to minor league sports. It was never intended to go this far.

What years? I have some credit hours from OSU but I never really attended as a regular student. I got my credits thru the Ohio Highway Patrol Academy and the State Police Academy in London.
That didn’t stop me from hanging out on N. High Street in my early 20’s though. I grew up in Columbus.

To me, a lot of the excitement would be missing not playing at the home field.

There has only been one non power 5 school that made it into the playoff, and that was Cincinnati. They certainly didn't get blown out, it was about the average score for a semifinal.

If you liked watching war protesters chased down Neil Ave, yeah, those were the days. It was an unusual time to be on a college campus.

Yes they are, just because they aren't in a Power 5 conference doesn't mean they aren't Power 5.

ND is a terrific institution of learning with high standards. And they have a loyal fan base. The university has been sharp about getting very lucrative tv contracts. Which is why I don't think they'll stay independent. It'll cost their athletic dept 85M to stay independent. Smart people don't walk away from that kind of help.
