Absolutely correct, fast4522. I absolutely cannot fathom how he could have enacted this order/mandate. Did the entire Country not know how this Virus plays out in Senior facilities when it happened in Washington State??? It is IMPOSSIBLE to be this oblivious as a Leader. Didn't anybody close to Cuomo try to tell him this is a BAD idea??? I understand that when I say that he can't be this oblivious some may think I am suggesting something nefarious. Whatever...there is NO way he can be this oblivious. I live one Hell of a long way from New York...but from Kentucky I can see he is either too stupid, or too corrupt...to hold that Office. It isn't like there weren't other facilities, provided by the Federal Government, where these Seniors could have been transferred, from the Hospitals.

I agree that America needs to get back to work. Playing "Live And Let Die" over the public address system while POTUS tours a mask factory seems to me to be in poor taste, though. Just sayin'.

Epidemiology is evolving. It's been 65 years since that flu. No one really knew THEN how bad it, and other flu pandemics would be. Recently, over the last 25 years epidemiology has advanced with human population research, preventive medicine, and public health issues because of “big data,” and other scientific techniques. Predictive models have improved, but as you have pointed out, the true outcome will not be known until it is done.

In 1957, worldwide surveillance for influenza was less extensive than it is today. Computers and modeling were basically non-existent. In the 1990s, the related fields of molecular and genetic epidemiology (expansion of epidemiology to look at specific pathways, molecules and genes that influence risk of developing disease) took root. Very different than 50+ years ago

The exact timing of the onset, peak, and end of influenza activity vary, and cannot be predicted precisely from one season to the next. In general, however, annual epidemics of influenza typically occur in the United States during the fall and winter. Influenza activity often begins to increase in the U.S. during October, and can extend as late as May. We do know at the least we have experienced the overwhelming bulk of all cases and fatalities only over the last 2 months. Unfortunately more is on the way. Including by all accounts a second wave.

The pandemic deniers here on off topic and out in far right lala land, want to disregard fatalities and human suffering presentably, simple-mindededly assuming we somehow "ACCEPTED" 1 million deaths in previous pandemics, when in fact did not know what previous pandemics would bring.

Hey, the Spanish flu killed 50 million worldwide. No one knew the outcome beforehand. If anyone had an inkling it would not have been "ACCEPTED" as business as usual.

Very Slow Re-Opening

The re-opening of our country is going to be very, very slow due to one single consideration. The operative word here is "Lawsuit".

Many businesses, entities, and individuals are going to be scared to death of the possible ruination financially due to someone dying of COVID19 and then getting sued, even when their states give the ok.

Although I think I heard there are some discussions about legislation to address this, it is not going to happen very quickly, so expect the return to "normal" to take a VERY long time. This will be especially true for activities which involve large sums people/spectators.

I bet the lawyers are licking their chops.

I said long ago that legal man is just waiting in the wings to catch the "BLAME game" point of view in multiple lawsuits...I can just imagine the TV ads now: "Your caught the virus due to these entities being in too big a rush to protect you so now they must pay!

From the article:
Quote:
A medical researcher said to be on the “verge of making very significant” coronavirus findings was found shot to death over the weekend in Pennsylvania, officials said.

Can't allow there to be a cure.

At least not until after:
  • Big pharma comes up with the cure. Not some independent researcher.
  • Dow 900.
  • 98% of the world's population are permanent wards of the state.
  • The election.
  • The Fed is insolvent and can no longer print money.
  • The dollar is no longer the world's currency.
  • True globalism is achieved.
Take your pick.

I think you’ve nailed it Jeff, although the election should probably be moved higher up the list.

Ok here is the skinny.

Generally speaking we have treatments for many a virus and not much success in cures and vaccines. That being said we have to state in very clear terms what have we learned from this.

It is obvious to me that we have many Andrew Cuomo's with their thumb up their heinie's doing there very best to kill business all over the country. That we did this shutdown to enable our country to put itself in a better position to handle this crisis instead if distribution of maximum power to the few who don't worry about losing a job or a family house. It is time to get our country back and get rid of people who did not handle the power they had during a crisis, If something else occurs in a shorter period of time than we would like do we want these people to really be our managers again really?

Some facts from NYC - Cuomo's Epicenter Legacy

https://www.statista.com/statistics/...new-york-city/

As of May 4th.....

Those under 65 have a death rate of .16%
Those under 18 have a death rate of 0%

Now, to even further reduce the risk, if we could get Cuomo to not put anymore KNOWN people having Covid into nursing homes.....

Hmm, back in early March, I predicted it would be .17% overall.

Here in New Hampshire our Governor reported 19 people died from Tuesday to Wednesday, all 19 who died came from rest/retirement homes.
