10,000,000 in handle for the last two days of the meet hardly seems failed.
Guess what we shall see what the weekend brings.
224 horses entered. Trainers aren’t afraid to run their horses at Monmouth.
How are we measuring failure in this case?

I said " New failed Agenda" for this year's nonsense with no whips....
Here's last year's " Old failed Agenda", lest you forget easily....

The whip rule is not Monmouth's rule. It is a New Jersey Racing Commission rule.

And who owns Monmouth Park?....It is owned by the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority and is operated under a five-year lease as a partnership with Darby Development, LLC.
I guess you believe the BS that NJSEA is independent of the NJRC...

The original lease rate from 2012 to 12/31/16. The horsemen (NJTHA) have 3 10 year options after that, then the NJSEA and NJTHA can jointly agree to another 10 year option.

Two Monmouth Jockeys Suspended for Crop Rule Violations
Carlos Montalvo and Carlos Lopez became the first jockeys to be penalized for violating the new state-implemented riding crop regulations at Monmouth Park as they both received a five-day suspension and a $500 fine July 23 for actions during the July 11 card at the New Jersey track.
Lopez will be suspended from July 24-28, while the ban for Montalvo is scheduled for Aug. 24-28.

The stewards basically said you can't use the whip if a horse bolts or drifts in or out. Montalvo used it to keep the horse from drifting out and he gets suspended. I have no idea why any jockey would ride there, they have to be desperate for money.

The OTB channel just interviewed Johnny V. He quietly, intelligently ripped their rule a new one. Says it’s just a matter of time and was surprised at what already has happened there.

I’m just a retired rider opining about the no whips for encouragement rule at Monmouth. Now I remember why I left this site years ago.

Neither rider even attempted to steer with their reins. They just kept on pumping loose reined. Neither needed the whip for safety.

They are crying because they have to change their riding style and they don’t feel as manly when whips are limited. They have fought every new whip rule put out. Whips are not needed for safety and riders know this but they don’t want to admit they feel sissy handriding.
Used to be a wuss move to go for the stick in a head to head dual down the stretch. There is no pride in horsemanship skills anymore. They just care about styling.

Looked at equibase historical charts
I chose July 18th 2015 at random..
11 races. Attendance 8.100
Handle on track $450,000...All sources was just shy of $4.8 million
July 24th, 2021
14 races.
Track attendance, 5,700 On track handle $368k
All sources handle was about the same...Roughly $4.9 million.
The data does not indicate a reduction in wagering activity, but does indicate a reduction in interest regarding fans wanting to view the live product.
