Plenty of trainers shoe their horses the morning of a race. I don't think it's that big of a deal.

Many years ago it happened at Hollywood Park. If I remember correctly something caused the sprinklers to not shut off overnight and the dirt track was flooded and not usable, so they moved the entire card to the turf.

The chute was a quagmire. The truck driving the starting gate was having trouble placing the gate properly due to the deep mud. The track had finally thawed after 12 long days of frozen tundra. 6 of the 10 races today are carded for 6 furlongs. Rain and possible snow later is in the forecast. So it could happen again today at some time. Stay tuned.
