Secy. of Homeland Security "resigns"
Wink, wink, nudge nudge. Know what I mean?
Quote:
Nielsen's departure is a part of a massive DHS overhaul engineered and directed by top Trump adviser Stephen Miller, according to a senior U.S. official. It's unclear whether Nielsen is deciding to leave voluntarily, or whether she has been pressured to resign.
But Nielsen's tenure since she was confirmed in December 2017 has at times been rocky, with the president taking some of his frustrations over illegal immigration out on her. Questions about whether she might leave have swirled for months. But she was by the president's side on Friday in Calexico, California, as Mr. Trump pushed for a crackdown on illegal immigration and the need for a border wall.

Don't mention the fact that everyone thought she would leave when Kelly left...what you should be posting is that you're surprised she was still around until now.

Rick Perry, huh? Here's Candidate Perry:
Quote:
Q: Donald Trump took aim at your work on the border yesterday, saying you should have done a better job protecting the border. What do you make of that?
PERRY: Well, I don't think he understands the challenge, obviously. I was the governor of Texas for 14 years. The governor of that state with the 1,200 mile Mexican border. When it became abundantly clear that the president wasn't going to deal with this immigration issue, we acted last summer. We surged our law enforcement and our National Guard there. And as a result we saw a 74 percent decrease of apprehensions in that region of the border where the real challenges were.

I'm not surprised at anything that happens in government. In my early career travels, I spent some time in the employment of a large state government. We used to refer to the upper level decision making process as the DDD: the decision deferral dance. Probably the same thing here. She has been feeding at the federal trough while evaluating her next move, waiting for the right moment to be able to blame Trump for bad decisions.

Another take on the resignation:
Quote:
Kirstjen Nielsen was one of President Trump’s most loyal soldiers in terms of the debate over the border crisis. She focused much of her time and resources on these questions and supported the President in terms of the wall and limiting access to illegal immigrants. The breaking point may have come when Trump pulled foreign aid to several Central American countries just as Nielsen was on a tour down there stressing the importance of continuing our aid.
The President is obviously frustrated with the situation on the border, recently saying that our country is “full” and people should turn around and go back. But the DHS Secretary doesn’t have the ability to change those policies with the wave of a wand. It would require action by Congress which is basically impossible under current conditions. That conflict came to a head today and the Secretary has resigned according to multiple sources.

It seems like working for Trump would be a tough gig. He gives good comments/recognition when he brings people in and when they leave. Everything in between is a tough road.

Does Trump pick a nominee, roll with an "acting," or just forward all calls to Steven Miller?
Word is Miller is trying to force out other senior officials as well as DHS legal counsel.
I'm sure it's nothing though... some people in the labor camp thread may get their wish.

Not quite labor camps or rotting corpses but...
Short version:
Neilsen resigned because she wouldn't break the law...
EDIT) Miller calling for the firing of DHS legal makes a whole lot of sense now...

Long live Stephen Miller
Fired or resigned is not the point -- except if you're a deranged, always wrong, Trump basher, of course.
She was incompetent and a failure at her job. A job she got mostly for being the main squeeze of John Kelly -- another failure.
She was a failure. Plain and simple.
And that is the point.
