Any bourbon connoisseur that hasn't tried Four Roses single barrel, needs to. By far my favorite. Sweet like honey and smooth as silk.
For more of a bite, I go with Woodford Reserve, or Blanton's if I have a few extra bucks. Basil Hayden is a fine spirit as well.
If its not from the Bluegrass, it's not good bourbon.

Having lived in Mexico, I've sampled well over 150 different Tequilas. If I had to pick 5 affordable ...these would be them:
5. Siete Leguas Reposado
4. El Tesoro Aņejo
3. Cazadores Aņejo
2. Casa Noble Reposado
1. Chinaco Reposado or Aņejo

Prices of turkey went on sale this week, with the bird in the oven and just took the tent off I am sitting down with three fingers of Makers Mark. Real smooth and maybe perfect prior to a large meal.

Then you are likely a fan of Basil Hayden, yes? How would you compare 46, the upgraded version of Makers Mark to MM

I have enjoyed both but I am far from being a connoisseur, basically a JD guy who keeps an eye on the New Hampshire Liquor outlet sales. I am not a big drinker but when there is a good deal the back row gets 5 new bottles.

Makers Mark, distinctive flavor and the bottle is cool. Makes a great old fashioned.

Polo, I agree. I toured the Four Roses distillery the same day I toured Woodford and of the 4 different bourbons I sampled that day, it was easily the best. Richer flavor and smooooth. Really enjoyable.
When I was growing up, Four Roses was considered a low-end brand and I was surprised (shocked, actually) by how the relatively new owners (Japanese) have turned it into a premium brand. I'm not so sure that was the best way to market it, I think a name change would have been better rather than have the baggage from its earlier carnation. Be that as it may, I really enjoy it.

That just reminded me of this pic from 'Toga 2008. BillW and I (well, mostly me I think) finished these off during our week and a bit stay. Just the thing after a hard day at the Spa.

My long time personal favorite is a really good cognac. I am not a connoisseur but have found that "expensive" usually tastes great. Usually my family gives me a bottle for Christmas and I nurse it all year.
I also like the taste of good tequila, but rarely indulge.
Never understood why people would waste GOOD tequila in a margarita.

truer words never spoken. I went to a tequila tasting dinner once. What an eye opener on what tequila can be.
