Never been a Scotch connoisseur (or across the pond- 'whisky'), but I used to drink CC/VO in my twenties. Thus, I am baffled when a friend likes to invest time and $$$$ in the little Liquor store near the Price Chopper in Saratoga. The prices are VERY friendly v.s. our own in Toronto and he stocks up.
The closest I get is Grand Marnier, which I tend to drink in the Fall-Winter Seasons.

Tried the Buffalo Trace last year- great stuff.
A friend visited the distillery at Finger Lakes and brought back a bottle of McKenzie bourbon. Now it's one of my favs (but still a single malt scotch guy).

In one of the offices I leased a few years back, we had a Cognac room provided by the floor manager. Either they had a very high budget or great taste, but there were three bottles of Johnny Blue stocked in there, untouched, when I first discovered it. They didn't last long! (by the way, whoever putting a Cognac Room on an office floor really didn't think about how conducive that was to working!)
One of my favorites is Glenlivet. Also was well-stocked in that office

I hate Scotch but one New Years several years ago I drank a whole bottle of Glenlivet myself and didn't have a hangover. That impressed me but not enough to develop a taste for Scotch.

I like 1800, very reasonably priced 100% Agave Tequila Reposado with a nice taste and smoothness. My favorites are the Anejo's, such as Don Julio or Tre Generaciones, but they're more expensive. The whole key with Tequila, it must be 100% Agave. Cuervo Gold is not real Tequila, it is a "Mixto" which means that by Mexican law it only has to be 51% Tequila. 100% Agave is good for us baby boomers because it is the purest spirit made and easy on the head compared to whiskey. You get the buzz but not the headache.
