My method certainly doesn't depend on triple digit winners...but it does get them every so often.
I actually prefer winners in the $40-$60 range...those are sweetest if you ask me.

It seems (to me) like you're not getting the credit you deserve.
Really brings up an interesting question about how many people can be profitable for just 100 races? 200? 500?

Seems to me this thread was about him hitting a $150 horse which not many people get to ever do on purpose.
I don't know if he bet it or not...not many people that get a good reason to bet them would actually bet them.
His other accomplishment is indeed amazing also, not many can get such a long winning streak, but it is discussed in at least one other thread.

I had the same thought. If someone can’t be happy for your success, for something you have accomplished ... a secure person would be Happy for You. And lest I forget, you are one of the few that puts your record out there for all to see.
PA, congrats for that hit and the others contributing to your + overall ROI.

I absolutely love to see people win. (unless they gained an unfair advantage at the expense of others).
Just one quick question, well, really 2:
1) does anybody wager the old fashioned way *pencil in hand* w/out a computer system and show a positive ROI?
2) What is a *decent* ROI to strive for? Not talking about world beater but a number in a range I can be proud of?
off topic but:
As for winners, even some people who have JOBS that are supposed to promote winning don't seem to *get* it and seem to want to rain on parades. I was in a casino a few weeks ago and a little old lady who was 91 and in a wheel chair was playing $1.60 a bet on a slots machine. She went into a bonus round, and the machine kept re-triggering bonuses rounds.
Little by little a crowd gathered. I started watching when she got it up to about $2,500. By $4,500 some casino guys in suits came and started chasing on-lookers away "because they were blocking the aisles." I saw the floor mgr. so I walked over and said: "you couldn't PAY for this kind of advertising......letting as many people in this casino see that a $1.60 player can actually win in your casino.....what is wrong with your staff? Seems like they need a marketing 101 class or something..."
He agreed with me. He got rid of the goons, and we all watched this lady get up to $9,600.00. We were all high-fiving each other for her.

1) unfortunately these are a dying breed, maybe extinct by now....
The 70's, 80's, and 90's there was plenty of publications & books on handicapping...why ???,.....the computer was irrelevant at that time.
Now days , the Millenniums are a bunch of lazy bastards....they couldn't tell your what is 10% of a 100 without a calculator.....the only people that would even know of pen & paper stuff is right here...
2) If the Whales make their money on rebates...then how can we answer this question and be realistic????
I would love 20% but ..........yeah right!!!

PA, are you betting your picks seriously - that is, more than just $2 every bet? If so, could you talk about the process you're using to size the bets? Similarly, if you're using the picks to play exotics, can you discuss your strategy for going from the win picks -> exotics?

Only betting win at the moment.
And betting "seriously" is kinda subjective.
Obviously, I'm not betting $1,000 per race, or the horse wouldn't have paid $150, although it was DMR...lol
I'm not betting as much as I could be, because as I've stated numerous times, I am still in the tasting phases of all this. But whenever I post picks publicly (well, I guess it's not publicly because you have to be a VIP to access the page), I am betting each and every one with real money.

So here is my record halfway through another 500 race run.
Yes, if it were not for that $150 horse, I would be down a little bit at the moment. But that really doesn't bother me. I've had a $50 and two $40 winners as well...should I take away those as well?
The point is, I'm targeting longshots...it would be a different story if I were mainly cashing low to mid-priced horses.

Doesn't Dave Schwartz's research at that other thread here discourage you from isolating on the longshots in every race?
