Hazel park closed

Wow and they even fell 10 employees short of the WARN ACT. Came close to a 60 day notice but nope they just pulled the plug on all 90 employees.

Class act all the way given that they announced this only a few weeks before their opening day at the beginning of May.

"The load-in day for trainers and horses was on Wednesday, just a day before the closure.

Don Pankewicz, another horse racer, said he has to turn around and head home after riving 14 hours on Wednesday to get horses here."

This "selling" was brewing when they started selling off their racinos in FL and WV, so it really shouldn't come as a surprise.

Pretty crappy treatment of horsemen, making them ship in theh pull the rug out from under them.

These losers should never be allowed back in the game.
Hope they lose that asses ( and homes, and cars.....ass clowns).

Allowed back in the game? They sold the Florida dog track and casino. Sold their assets in W Va, only HP was left. And it wasn't making money. They don't want back in the game. They've raped the game. Three greedy guys backstabbing each other along the way. F-THEM.

Sad news.

I had hoped to visit them again this year as part of an Ohio harness fair trip. Pretty little track and layout IMO.

Not much to do in the short term, although perhaps they could try to talk Mount Pleasant Meadows into getting back into the game.

Was a regular at the track.

This is a real stunner on how it went down. You hear rumors all the time but thought we were good for this year.

Thing is the attendance at the track wasn’t a problem. Even last year they extended the meet by few weeks.

Knew about the infighting and how H&T wanted to get out of the game, but was hoping someone else would take over or the state would step in and protect all the jobs that will be lost (not just the 90 at the track but the 12k that support the industry).

We were never going to be big time with a 5/8 track, but I don’t think we would be able to complete with the big time tracks anyway. This was the best location for a track in Michigan, centrally located in the Detroit area. The other tracks that failed here were in smaller areas or built on the outskirts. The recent failure of Pinnacle track is gonna prevent anything new being built.

Now all we have here are a bunch of casinos.
