If they downgrade the West Coast race, what are our graded Stakes - claimers?

I guess this fits into the "Are You Kidding Me" topic.

Wrona announces the is a first time gelding in race 11 with about 17 minutes to post.
is a lone ticket to the Pick 6 Jackpot pool.

Thats pretty disappointing, should have been a purse only runner.

I picked the on the selections board yesterday (i had only the on top of him, and the 14 scratched). So he was a logical winner, with or without the family jewels.

I'm thinking that when we view top horses from a historical perspective we should downgrade any dirt horse trained by Bob Baffert. I seems unfair to compare "horses" on just figures and accomplishments when most of them are trained by mere mortals and some are trained by Bob Baffert.

This is not a knock on anyone, but who was the better horse last year?

Arrogate or California Chrome?

99 out of 100 will say Arrogate.

Give Arrogate to someone else or give CA Chrome to Baffert.

Who was the better horse?

There are so many great trainers, but he is simply on another level.

We had a direct demonstration of that when Kaleem Shaw sent a bunch of horses from Baffert to Sherman

He also sent some to Drug O'Neill and those didn't do so well either.

I don't want to bag too much on Sherman though. He really did a nice job with Chrome.

He did am amazing job, especially considering the prior year when the owners took him to Europe, changed trainers, and turned the year into a debacle. He not only brought him back to form, he was the best he ever was last year. Losing in the last few strides to Arrogate while conceding weight and WAY ahead of the rest of the field was quite a performance.

How many were transferred? I remember Dortmund of course, but to be fair he was done before Sherman got him, that was pretty obvious in the BC Dirt Mile.

I haven't tracked all the horses he switched because I don't play daily in CA, but there was another quality filly he had that hasn't looked as good and another one someone else told me about. I think there were a few others.

I wouldn't say Dortmund was clearly done.

He was a horse they had trouble holding together. He had issues with his feet and it was reported he'd lose weight once they got him going. He finished off his 3yo campaign on a very sour note also, but Baffert eventually brought him back for a very good 4yo season before he ran poorly in the BC Mile. I see no reason to think he couldn't do it again if he still had the horse.

I want this to be clear. I'm not saying anything negative about any of the other trainers. I'm calling Baffert Michael Jordan. That doesn't mean some of these other guys aren't great also. Maybe just not as great.

None of the Shah horses he's sent to O'Neil, Sherman, or Simon Callaghan have been runners with exception of one stake O'Neil won with a horse called Elliad???

From Bayern's 4 year old season on Baffert and Shah had little success together. My belief is he didn't like how Baffert handled Bayern at 4. He didn't like Dortmund playing second fiddle to AP. And he felt marginalized by Baffert's growing relationship with Judgemonte.

Here's the list of the Shah horses that were switched.

http://www.drf.com/news/shah-sends-n...oneill-sherman

There were quite a few very promising ones among them (Klimt, American Gal and others). Several of the best ones haven't made it back to the races, a couple of decent ones have gone south, and among the rest none has really jumped up and developed a lot the way so many other Baffert horses are doing this year. The best development was probably Iliad for Doug O'Neil. That horse looked really good for Baffert in his 2nd start and continued to look good winning the San Vincente for O'Neil.

Fantastic Style was the other one I was thinking of.

Well, gotta be an 10 average over the last weekend at SA and the next weekend coming up, maybe someone got the message, long term though they will need to come up with a better plan then just telling people to run more.

Yeah but I'm not convinced they've done ANYTHING. They eliminated a day and got bigger fields the other three. Unless the entry both is up over 25% it's a nothing burger.

On top of it it's the last two weeks of the meet. It's the last chance to run on the turf until Del Mar. It's the last chance to run and seven or six and a half.

So when you combine all the variables unless they're up over 35-40% in field size this is nothing.
