I remember when I wasn't such a cynical, jaded prick and held the public-at-large in such high regard.

During my entire work career, I was extensively involved in Inspection, Enforcement & Investigation. A buddy's fav line, was that if you weren't a jaded, cynical prick after ONE week on the job, hearing all the faux, bullshit excuses from biz- then you were simply too stupid to perform the job!
Deep into the game, I heard one pantload I'd heard 100x from a Corporate V.P. and his hangers on.
Said I...
"Hold on a sec until I get my little check book out, to confirm whether you've nailed the #1 reason for this FUBAR!"
Crickets for a second... and then everyone broke out howling with laughter!
(When we left, told a newbie I was training: " Don't roll that one out on your first time alone, kid!"

George Will has forgotten far more than Donald Trump will ever know.

It is symptomatic of the problem Republican's face in this election though. They are divided. The opposition is united. That is a guarenteed formula for losing an election.
There is already a formidable list of Republican's outright endorsing Clinton. It will grow. And that doesn't count those who won't endorse either which would be eyebrow raising by itself in any other election year.
And I'm sure the Trump troops already have a variety of names to call them. But when you are making predictions about results in November, don't forget to include them in your calculations. And compare the list with Democrats endorsing Trump.
How anybody with common sense looks at the 2012 map and doesn't see it as the absolute best possible result for Trump is beyond me.

The problem is Trump is an OUTSIDER... he has not been schooled in Politrick 101 one hand... and back scratchin'. That's the establishments #1 issue. He'll point out all the graft and hypocrisy... be it Left... Right or Center. The Crim,,, I mean Career Politicians are fearful of the bright light that Trump will shin upon them and revel them for what they are... shameless hussies bought and paid for... So let the RATS run to Hillary Rodent Clinton.
I believe more people support Trump then will admitted it... but in the booth alone they will mark Trump.

George Will is leaving the party?
Well, now Trump's positive effects continue.
What was Will's position in the party again?
Oh, I remember....he folded Mitt's magic underwear.
Georgie......buh-bye.

The problem is that Trump is unelectable. You can list all the populist imaginings about why that is so but it doesn't change the ground where the election is being held in reality.
And your "polls are wrong because there is a secret cadre of Trump supporters who are afraid to say so out loud" may give you comfort as his numbers deteriorate but if you look at his polling and results in the primaries, there is no evidence it actually exists.
