Took a ride to play golf at Mountaineer's Woodview Golf Course Tuesday with the intent of watching them run later on that evening. Shocked that they did not allow fan(s). The Simulcasting was also closed in the Casino??? Thought the new owners were going to be Horseracing friendly? "We'll leave the slots on, but no soup for you Horse Players".

I understand your frustration, but the decision on when to allow fans at “equestrian events” was made by W.V. Gov. Justice, not Century Casinos, Inc.

The Governor has no say in opening Simulcasting. Slots on 100 feet from the closed Teller Cages?

I’m not privy to those plans but I’m sure Century has a good reason for not opening the casino OTB at the same time as the casino itself.

Great Pro Shop and scenery. The greens were well maintained and very quick. Some of them were impossible due to severe slopes. About 5 of the Par 4's were almost drive-able even for this almost 60ish bogey golfer.
If you want a real test, try Kennsington Golf Club in Canfield. My Summertime job became real work during April and May when we were the only game in town.

BTW..Social media totally creeps me out. It's a cesspool of attention whoring, mean-spirited idiocy, and brave keyboard warriors seeking to ruin people just for kicks.
Whereas Pete's laid back persona and smooth manner make him perfectly suited to navigate that treacherous path and rep Mnr, I am much, much too intense for any format that permits anonymous hostility. Within 10 min, I would tweet something that tanked my career. Like Dirty Harry observed: A man has got to know his limitations.

It's been quite a few years since I played The Beaver. Ironically, it was most likely the morning of The West Virginia Derby about 10 years ago. Losing $$ at golf and horseracing on the same day is not my idea of a Daily Double.

I can only assume that the $800,000 drop from Sunday to Monday this week was due to my withdrawal from social media. I guess time will tell.

Getting back on topic, I'll throw two theories out there.
1) Do enough people know that Mountaineer is running again. Sure, the hardcores here know it, but maybe the word is not out the way it was about other tracks?
2) For all of the talk about handle being "up" it was actually down 30% year over year in May. That's with no on-track attendance, yes, but also no competition from professional sports. Perhaps expecting handle to match past years is unrealistic at this point of time except for the very top tracks?

I never win when i wager at golf. It doesn't even require money to make me choke, just trying to impress my pals is too much pressure for MY swing. Sometimes on the range, I choke when just trying to impress MYSELF.

I am no longer on social media, of course, following some nasty repercussions from the Luis Quinones fall. But that's OK. I found myself spending several hours every day on Twitter, Facebook and Instant Messenger doing my best to promote Mountaineer, but also taking away precious time from my family and from my day job. Something had to give. My job is to call the races and I'd like to think I do that as well as anyone.
