Did jockeys returning to New York to ride not have to go into 14-day isolation first?
I didn't hear any news about this. I don't know if they had to or not.
But, most of the main jockeys were elsewhere (Gulfstream, etc.) right up till the end of May if I remember correctly. (I could be wrong).
However, if so, how is it that Irad Ortiz, Jr., Jose Ortiz, John Velasquez, etc. all immediately began riding at Belmont days later?
Again, I don't know if New York state is enforcing a two-week isolation, but New York is the U.S.A.'s hot spot for COVID-19 still I thought.
Just asking, so any information is appreciated guys. Thank you.

Gulfstream had rules in place for those jockeys. Testing and such. Any other jockey, went thru a test and other things before being allowed to ride. Think everything they did was pretty safe.

Got a bad ride?
Next time your horse gets beat from a questionable ride,
just blame it on the jockey having a 103 degree temp and body aches.

Or, at Fonner Park at least, you might be able to blame me for buying him a few drinks the night before.

That's purely medicinal and therapeutic.
Eases anxiety in the starting gate, I'd have thought.

NYRA had a press release describing the measures in detail.
I recall it said something to the effect that Jockeys needed a documented Covin negative test results less than 48 hours old. Here’s a high level.

Oops.
One of the nicest guys I ever met was jockey Ray Sibille.
He and his wife, Dot (I think), came to stay where I was working
in the early 90s around the time the Braves were getting big in baseball.
The man would talk racing, or anything else, for hours on end.
Great guy.

Ray Sibille. Won the Breeder's Cup Turf in 1988 on Great Communicator. Fun times. Thanks for a small trip back in time.

I don't think New York ever had mandatory quarantining for visitors. It was for people COMING from hotspots, not going to.
Here are Florida's rules, which I believe are still in effect.
Everyone traveling from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut or Louisiana must self-isolate or self-quarantine for 14 days, or for however long they will remain in the state if it's shorter, per executive orders from Gov. Ron DeSantis. Neither order applies to airline employees nor people "performing military, emergency or health responses."

Friend of mine's daughter just went back to Germany, from NY. When she arrived she was offered to either 14-day quarantine or pay $200 for the Covid test. She opted for the latter.
